What resonates is the stress that life brings.
People are always looking for a better life, but in reality they can't get it, so the disabled policeman entrusted a better life to painting, and he began to paint constantly in order to escape from reality. Yamada's life was always bad. His fellow police officers died and were injured. He was forced by loan sharks. His wife was terminally ill. There seemed to be no way out of his life.
At the end of the film, a little girl is flying a kite, Yamada helps the kite, the girl runs, and Yamada's wings are left in Yamada's hands before he can fly the kite. But the girl is still stubbornly running to ride a kite. This is what this film is about, in the end the kite of life cannot fly.
The film won the Venice Golden Lion in 1997, and it was reported that the audience stood up and applauded after watching it. I don't know what those professional people think. After I read it, I was silent for a while.
