"Faith" and "Morality"

In the West, people associate "faith" with "morality".
Because in Christian culture, people in the world will be judged at the end of the day. Those who accumulate virtue and do good will go to heaven, and those who have committed crimes go to hell. Therefore, people who are alive must be watched by God at all times. They all carry this religious reverence at all times, and this reverence is transformed into individual "morality" in society to ensure the normal, stable and development of society.
If a person declares himself to have no "faith", it means that he is not bound by anyone (or God), that is, he is entrusted with the final judgment, so he can do whatever he wants, even "morally" is also indulgent. In Western rational society, a person without morality is very scary, he means he is a "devil" (satan) living in the world.
That's why presenter Bill Maher was ostracized and slammed by religious people everywhere, even kicked out of the Catholic Church in the Vatican. They see people like Bill as "atheists" who have no "moral restraints", deviant social fringes, and are very dangerous people.
One of the reasons why Westerners always have a "China threat theory" is because they think that Chinese people are all atheists and staunch materialists, which makes them very afraid, that is to say, they think that "the moral level of the Chinese people" The reason is not high”, they believe that “the Chinese can do anything”.
Some people also say that when you come across the "religious belief" column when you apply for a visa or fill in a form abroad, you must be careful, preferably something, even if you fill in "Confucius" (Confucianism), Or "Marxism", you won't be ostracized by them because of your ideology, but you will make them feel at ease because you are a person of "belief".

The state of Chinese and foreign officials being asked to be speechless is very similar - you don't need an intelligence test to enter the Senate, hahaha

In fact, it is not a documentary, and the director's subjective intention still strongly affects the perspective of the film. Although the director skips over being strong, after all, there are still many interesting places. For example, heaven is so good, why don't you commit suicide?

Religulous quotes

  • Tal Bachman: [an ex-Mormon] In the founding scriptures, you open the doctrine covenant, you read the autobiography of Joseph Smith. He quotes Jesus Christ as telling him that every other creed on Earth is, quote, an abomination. That's not a very ecumenical statement.

  • Bill Maher: The idea that Christianity is American, I think, is an amazing entitlement to a people who are always trying to meld God and country.

Bill Gardiner: The Garden of Eden was in Missouri, according to Mormonism. The new Jerusalem will be there.

    Bill Maher: Branson, I hope.
