her knee, his door

The first time I saw Eric Rohmer's work, I was attracted by the strong emotional charm of the film. In a way, it's a "talking" movie, in which the characters chat freely with each other, talking candidly about themselves, about their views on life, about love, about everything. But, is this the truth? The development of the story was beyond my expectations. The novelist Aurora hid the fact that she was about to get married, the little girl Laura hid the fact that she had a little boyfriend, and Laura's mother hid the fact that she was about to remarry, only our poor hero. Jerome confessed all his privacy. Are women naturally more likely to keep their secrets? Probably yes.
Jerome is a character worth chewing. It seems that every man can find his own shadow in him. Who hasn't felt that the boy next to the girl he likes is not worthy of her? Is there only one person in the world who is worthy of her? Who has never seen a girl they like make out with another boy, and scold that boy from the bottom of their hearts as "nasty". But you actually want to do the same thing yourself? Who doesn't have a little "Lolita" complex?
Personally, Jerome doesn't really like Claire, he's just a man who thinks he's getting old and that he should choose stability and choose to get married. So when he touched "Carat's Knee", he was satisfied.
The movie started peacefully and ended peacefully like this.

Claire's Knee quotes

  • Aurora, the novelist: I find all men attractive. That's why I can't pick one. Why one and not another? I need a reason to choose one specific man. Since I can't have them all, I prefer to do without any.

  • Aurora, the novelist: Let me tell you something. Last year I wanted to test my charms on very young boys. The young generation is a complete unknown to me. Incomprehensible. A total mystery. I settled on the number five in one week.

    Jerome: Five!

Aurora, the novelist: Actually, I had three. Very handsome, all of them.

Jerome: Did you enjoy it, apart from the glory of conquest?

Aurora, the novelist: It was very nice. I could have gone on. But since it was a matter of ego, and ego is quickly satisfied, at least, in this area, I prefer to wait. I know how to wait. Waiting is pleasant in and of itself.
