Right person, Right time, Right place

After the end of World War II, the United States also ended the US-Soviet alliance and started the Cold War era. The American society, which has experienced the baptism of war, has also experienced the surging of various ideological trends, and hesitation and helplessness have become the labels of this generation.
Most people choose to be drunk and have fun, and their understanding of politics is limited to those innocuous gossip jokes; a few people like Katie who are passionate about politics and have a clear stand are out of tune with the times and society. Her speeches, though temporarily rippling, were more mocked, and her clumsiness in love contrasted sharply with her eloquence when she plunged into politics.
However, the masses are more refusing to escape, they hope to find a way out. So so many people attended Katie's talk, so the Hub would be attracted to Katie. Just physical attraction can't solve the conflict of values: Katie's style of being strong in everything has caused considerable pressure on the family, and Hub hopes to be alone in this chaotic world and avoid disturbance. Breaking up is inevitable.
It's a familiar story, taking place in America and many, many places. Personal tragedy in the context of the great era is poignant. The two sides who are deeply in love are separated and combined because of differences in political opinions, and it is still difficult for them to be dependents.
Rather than saying that Katie chose politics and not the Hub, it is better that the Hub chose the wrong one. What he fell in love with was Katie's independence and intelligence, which coincided with his bohemian character. But tragedy is already doomed. Everything came too easily for him, but at least he knew it. …really no reason for us to change. But of course, by then they were too lost or too lazy. Character determines fate, and even if you understand, you still can't break free. This is fate.
Pollack's intention is obviously not only that, he criticizes the social and political distortion of human nature. Only a tolerant society can hear more different voices, and society can progress, after all, Katie is only a minority. And scandals like the Hollywood Ten Case, which use public power to destroy dissidents, will only exacerbate social conflicts and break apart groups one by one.
The two who met again have a thousand words about when the time will be gone, and the society has returned to the right track, but the people are no longer, they can only continue to live each other's lives and bury their regrets deep in their hearts. In a sense, their love is a funerary of that era.
