What I think is worth mentioning is the way of expression of the picture. "Mirror Mask" can also be regarded as a relatively skilled film using CG technology, and most of the actors' scenes were completed in front of the blue screen.
Beyond that, the film strives to achieve a hand-drawn visual effect. The picture that expresses the "dream" will give the audience a strong sense of layering, which comes from the combination of many plane and 3D objects. I think this is what makes "Mirror Mask" different.
In the film, the audience will also find many strange and fresh things and creatures, some huge and scary, and some small and cute. But you will quickly get used to the existence of these things, because they may have appeared in your childhood dreams.
I admire the film's director Dave McKean and screenwriter Neil Gaiman, their imagination is so rich, weave the girl's dream so beautifully. Of course, to achieve this final effect, we must not forget the team that made this film, including costume designers, makeup artists, props, etc., a large number of strange masks, illusory scenes and weird characters. It took them 3 years from the idea of this film in their minds to the final completion.
The background music in the film is also commendable. There is no big production, no majestic symphony and chorus, but elegant saxophone and calm cello with electronic music as the main melody, and a few whistles occasionally appear, which is in line with the mysterious, illusory and peaceful atmosphere of the film.
