Film review "The Shimmering City"

This isn't the twilight that went viral. It's another sci-fi movie.I

personally think that the most successful part of European and American fantasy is to add many familiar elements in a very imaginative and almost absurd background, and substitute various real character relationships, material needs, psychological struggles and so on in reality. Make it seem reasonable in the bizarre, but the surprise is not abrupt. Harry Potter is a model, and in the Magic Kingdom, built on an imaginative backdrop, it depicts the everyday school life we are all familiar with. It's just that the students of mathematics, physics and chemistry have been replaced by black magic, potions, and spells, and sports have been replaced by broomsticks... and pets such as cats and dogs have been replaced by night owls and elves.

This kind of innovation ensures the affinity of the content, not completely out of touch with life, and adds interesting and interesting points of view.

The same is true for Shimmering City. Science fiction for all ages. Take it easy without looking too hard. The content is specious, not without flaws and loopholes, but in a specific sci-fi context, everything seems to make sense. The special environment set by the author, everything is fresh and reasonable.

As a nocturnal animal, I really love this shimmering city that has not seen the sun for a long time and is lit by thousands of lights in the film.

The protagonists are both pleasing to the eye. Especially the heroine, who is only 14 years old this year. Not showy or charming precocious European and American girls. But full of aura and clear temperament, very intellectual, I like it very much.

Bright ending, very inspirational, warm and moving. Feel the depth of the moral of this story, not complicated but not superficial.

City of Ember quotes

  • Loris Harrow: [narrating] On the day the world ended, the fate of mankind was carried in a small metal box. In a secret location, architects, scientists and engineers met and concluded that there was only one hope for our future: to build an underground city designed to keep its citizens protected for generations to come. The box was entrusted to the first mayor, who was to pass it on to her successor. As the years counted down, the box passed from mayor to mayor. None knew what secrets it held, only that it would open when it was needed most. But fate ran another course, and the chain was broken. The box was tucked away and forgotten, and as the city grew old and began to crumble, the box quietly clicked open.

  • Loris Harrow: [narrating] Lina and Doon tied their hope to a rock and tossed it down toward the city. The rock could've ended up on a roof. Or kicked into a gutter. But fate ran another course. And the message found its way. Now the path was clear for all. All of us who kept the flame of Ember burning, through the darkness, so that we could live again on the earth, in the air and the light.
