I admit.
Watching this movie is for Ryan. This guy who has been half-hearted in Hollywood is no longer the handsome and outrageous little boy I first saw. After experiencing the breakdown of the golden boy and jade girl's marriage, she gained weight, grew a beard, and became vicissitudes. Fortunately - I like his eyes as always. Cynical and genuine confusion with a little pretense.
A lot of people won't like this movie, it's like a broken dream. How gorgeous the dream is, how bleak the reality is. Everyone has mental illness - kissing someone who doesn't exist; using suicide as the theme of creation; blindly attributing fate to God's choice; even, becoming the constructor and master of an imaginary world at all.
I shudder at the thought of telling myself a story, telling it, and believing it to be true. Everything within sight, who knows, is it just a meanwhile city that I have painted for myself.
Where exactly do you live? Is it Meanwhile city or London?
But what's the difference?
David, or John, he finally succumbed to reality at the end. Everything is illusory, like waking up from a big dream. But the collapse of this illusory world means the shattering of all values and beliefs. When you see that the face is not the individual you hate, it's your father; when you find that the city you live in is not the gorgeous and sinful meanwhile city, but the pale London, then what else can you choose ?
So at that moment, the gloomy and beautiful suffocating world disappeared with John's death, but we still saw the shadow of meanwhile city in the sky of London. Everyone has a dark and illusory corner in their hearts, you can't deny it, although you don't want to admit it.
Maybe, I also have mild mental illness. Such an ending would make me feel suffocated, as if my world was also destroyed in that moment.
Maybe, all your life, you'll never know exactly who you are and where you are.
