The film did ANATOMY. Not only the facts of the case, but also the procedures of criminal proceedings were introduced in detail. From forensic identification to evidence submission, from jury review to cross-examination. It is very helpful for friends who want to understand the criminal justice process in the United States. Personally, I think it has something to do with the old age of the film. In the later films of the same theme, it is difficult to put all these matters into it, and it would be too unkind to spend time like that.
145 minutes, except for the soundtrack (then-popular jazz) that irked me a bit, basically passed without knowing it. The plot is relatively compact, especially the large court trial scenes, the tit-for-tat debate, teasing, and sarcasm between the prosecution and the defense, and the judge's humorous maintenance of order, which is very interesting.
BTW, this film was nominated for an Oscar in 1960.
