movie unfolds slowly in the darkness, and under the unclear stone lines is a hand, Lifeless hands. At one point, I thought it was a suspense movie. As the light gradually brightened, it was also clear that this small village in the southern United States. Jack's return brought hope to the whole village. Even though things went wrong and homes were destroyed in the past 7 years, even though Jack was so arrogant and rude, the villagers still hoped to see his return. I really don't understand this. However, there is no doubt that Jack's return brought a ray of light to this impoverished village. The beautiful wife, the sensible son, the industrious black people, and the villagers, all smiles gradually creeping up to the corners of their eyes and brows. Even if the wife felt that the Jack in front of her was different from the rough Jack 7 years ago, she was still willing to believe that this Jack was her husband, including everyone. Just as the tobacco harvest is booming and the village is about to become rich, the police officers arrive and they want to arrest Jack as a murderer. The plot suddenly changed. The only way to save Jack is to show that Jack is an impostor. While his wife is defending him, Jack unexpectedly fires the lawyer, arguing that he is the real Jack. Even though he knew that there was a dead end ahead of him, even though he had heard his wife's declaration of love for his fake husband, he resolutely chose to admit the fact that he was Jack. At the end of the execution, I was hopeful that the director would arrange a turnaround, but instead... I saw his tombstone.
In the face of a fake husband, I am often very suspicious of my wife's attitude. On the first night, she had already noticed her difference, but she was still willing to get along with him until she fell in love with her. It is true that Jack is a good husband and father, but facing such a strange man, I don't know how to overcome that sense of distance. Is it the loneliness that the wife waits for her husband for 6 years, or the love that is implied in her heart for that incompetent husband? But it all happened so naturally. Perhaps, the occurrence of love does not need any reason in the first place. Jack's gentleness, carefulness, and sense of responsibility... are enough to make a woman fall, even if he used to be a heinous thief and liar. When I finally heard "How do you know, how do you know, how do you know, because I have never loved you as much as I love him." This defense made my heart a little sour. I finally admitted my love, but what I faced was a permanent separation.
I was a little disappointed about the ending. But isn't the ending happy? Perhaps, that ending is the best consummation of the movie. If, for his own sake, Jack admits that he is an impostor, completely disregarding the land and property of the whole village, disregarding his wife's reputation, and disregarding the daughter who was just born to be an "illegitimate child", then this heroic character is definitely a hero. Disgusting hypocrite. Death is not the opposite of life, but is eternal as a part of life. In the hearts of the wife and the villagers, Jack is eternity.
I am a nostalgic person who always stubbornly wants to retain the past. Old books, torn dolls, crumpled notes... always stored in boxes. As time goes by, it seems to be gradually forgotten. A chance encounter one day, the past suddenly poured out, clear but vague.
When I first met you, it was like returning from an old friend. Are we remembering that person, the feelings we once hoped for, or the future we hope for?
