This story has nothing to do with dogs

Many people think that this is a story about the love between people and dogs, and I thought so too when I read the title at first. But at the moment when the film ended, with tears and infinite emotion, I suddenly realized that this story is not actually about the affection between a dog and its owner, or that the dog is not the focus of the story. Marley can only be said to be the clue of the whole film, an emotional sustenance point.
The story is bland, and through the male protagonist's marriage, career, and family, I see the journey of life that we all go through. From the initial youthful passion, full of ideals, to compromising with reality for the sake of livelihood, life returns to plain, and then to the passing of time, I finally feel the meaning of true warmth and happiness.
Although this story happened in the distant United States, it is actually happening to each of us. It’s just that in today’s China, we have to bear more burdens of material life, and we are far less comfortable than the American people. But the emotions buried in it are universal.
I think the director put a lot of thought into it, and the background of the film matches the emotional trend very well. At the beginning, the young couple settled down in the Florida seaside where the seasons are like spring. Young people are always full of passion and romance, and the hustle and bustle of tropical beaches are always so fascinated by young people. As time passed, and into middle age, the family moved to a quiet town in Philadelphia. The patches of red maples and the golden waves of wheat all reveal to people that they are no longer young, and that they have entered the golden autumn of life through time.
The death of the dog actually heralds the end of an era for the hero, and some things are gone forever. This is something each of us cannot escape.

Marley & Me quotes

  • Debby: There were 11 thunderstorms while you were gone, 11, you were right, he doesn't like them and just so you know I am a dog person but that is not a dog, that is evil with a dog face that humps my leg and is peeing on your carpet.

  • Jennifer Grogan: Marley's not allowed to drink out of the toilet, you should just keep him out of the bathroom in general.
