The weight of life is always on our minds. If he is our relative, friend, kind? If he is our enemy, rival, alien? Standing on both ends of the scale, we don't seem to be at all embarrassed. It is always easy to raise our hands, giving tears and sorrow to the former and contempt and frivolity to the latter.
Slowly raising the heavy arm in a solemn salute to death is another aspect of respecting life. Laughing at others' death and pretending to be abusive is itself a contempt for one's own life. Dying with dignity is more admirable than living without dignity.
