leonard and howard, sheldon and rajesh are splits of roy and moss respectively. As for penny, I really don't want to say that she is a copy from jen, the level of these two people is too far apart! So I guessed that maybe the British pronunciation made the show unpopular? I myself don't like watching modern British dramas.
