This is the first film I've seen that confronts its wounds. Under the impact of modern civilization, human nature exposes its weaknesses.
I like the blue eyes of Ralph Finnes, and suddenly the feelings of "The English Patient" surged up again; Rachel Weisz lost her simplicity, beautiful and strong.
Fernando Meirelles well integrates the desolate atmosphere of Africa into the film, sunsets, lakes, birds, sparse trees, the eyes of African children.
I especially like Fernando Meirelles's use of frightening waterfowl instead of gunshots. The best description of cruelty is a silent indictment.
The ending song Kothbiro is heartbroken, but can't seem to escape: This is Africa.
