After carefully savoring the film, I didn't want to write a review, because I was worried that it would be too superficial and mislead people who read the film, so that the initial impression of the film would be reduced. But in the end, I sat at the computer and quickly typed the following words, because many thoughts are fleeting.
Compared with the title of "Love is the Only", I prefer the literal translation of "Crossing the Sky". In fact, rather than saying that this is a love musical, it is better to add a few more prefixes - "a love musical that pays tribute to the Beatles with anti-war content and artistic expression techniques".
The film is actually a perfect tribute from the writer and director to the Beatles. The plot of the film uses the love of the two protagonists as a clue, and uses many beautiful songs of the Beatles to support the whole plot, which is why the film has many anti-war themes (many songs of the Beatles have anti-war themes. color and anti-war content, and also reflected a lot of political events at the time).
It can be said that if all the Beatles songs covered in the film were removed, then the film would really only be left with a shaky skeleton.
Whenever those wonderful, beautiful, old songs that are still heard over and over again are re-interpreted, you will have this thought in your heart: "With these songs, this movie is worth watching",
especially at the end of the film . The song "All you need is love", when the hero and heroine are separated from each other by two floors, accompanied by this song, at that moment, I really feel that in the eyes of those two people, at this moment, love is only...
In fact, the first time I came into contact with the songs of the Beatles was because I was obsessed with Markle Jackson at that time. I heard that there are many covers of the Beatles songs in his album, so I went to buy the tapes of the Beatles songs to listen to. Maybe when I was young, I didn't think there was anything special about the Beatles' songs when I listened to them, but I just thought, well, it's okay. But today, in the process of watching the film "Crossing the Sky", I suddenly found out that the Beatles' songs are so sensational and intriguing.
When it comes to this point, I have to mention the singing skills of several leading actors in this film.... Very good, whether it is a professional or a non-professional, the singing skills are quite OK. Coupled with the director's lens language and bright colors, gorgeous editing, just right special effects, and a lot of beautiful close-ups of characters, when you look at the clear eyes and handsome faces in front of the camera, then Accompanied by beautiful songs, it is strange not to be soft-hearted.
If "Through the Sky" is perfect, it's all thanks to those classic Beatles tracks. This is also the biggest shortcoming of "Crossing the Sky", because if you remove these songs, it will show the weakness of the plot.
Another point I would like to mention is some of the lens performance techniques of this film. Maybe because of professional reasons, I am very sensitive to the camera picture. If a movie has a beautiful picture, I will give it a few extra points first. "Crossing the Sky" is such a film.
For example, when the walls of the apartment where Jude and the others lived were gradually transparent, through the walls, the complex buildings and streets of the outside world all subsided and disappeared, and the oncoming was a blue sky and white clouds. The picture is so beautiful, I was thinking, if this shot was shown in theaters, it would look much more beautiful than on a 19-inch monitor. If it is made into a 3D effect, can I also experience the feeling of being surrounded by the sky?
Another example is the scene where Lucy's brother went to enlist in the army. A lot of special effects shots and editing were used to make the audience feel the same, and at the same time, it showed the helpless mood and the situation of being slaughtered by the children who were forced to enlist at that time.
Another shot is of a group of people swimming naked in a lake in the wild. In the blue water, the two leading actors appeared naked, hugging each other and kissing each other. At that moment, I seemed to feel the coolness of the water and the heat in their hearts. Although it is a nude mirror, it is neither obscene nor pornographic or slutty, but on the contrary, it makes people feel the purity and sincerity of emotions.
There are many more beautiful scenes like the above, such as Jude's process of drawing the strawberry jam logo, the picture of the bright red strawberry being pinned to the drawing board; and the scene of Lucy's brother lingering with the nurse in the hospital. Very gorgeous and camera-like.
Sometimes I have the urge to draw these images with a pen, because any still shot is a work of art, both in composition and color.
Across the Sky may be a niche movie, because at least you need to know: What is the Beatles? So why don't you listen to the Beatles first and then watch the movie.
