This film is different from traditional action films. In the whole film, the action is only used as a short foil instead of the mainstream of violence and violence in traditional action films, so many action film fans will be disappointed with him. Much of the film is about the return of humanity under artistic charisma. Although it is said that the movie gives people a feeling of unpleasantness at both ends: the action scenes cannot be enjoyable, and the thematic part cannot be digged too deeply. In the end we can only say: Fortunately, there is at least one sentimental story written by Luc Besson.
Is it really dehumanizing if a person undergoes animal training at a very young age? This reminds me of the wolf child I once heard, it seems that the wolf child is completely inhuman, he was raised by a beast as a baby, and eventually became a half-human, half-animal creature. Humanity is thus stripped away in a completely wild environment. In the same way, isn't Mount Tarzan in Tarzan of the Great Apes also like this? But compared to Danny, Wolf Child and Tarzan's loss of humanity can only be said to be forced by the environment, while Danny's humanity is deprived by people, his kind. In the film, Danny has only a bit of a broken consciousness, and this consciousness can only make him obey the command of Uncle Bart, who is trained to be an inhuman thug. People often become simple when they are lost, and that simplicity can often lead to the animal nature that exists in people's hearts. Once a person inspires this animal nature, it will become terrifying. Generally, the reasons for this beastly outbreak are extreme, either the harsh surrounding environment, such as the wolf child and Tarzan mentioned above, or the impact of extreme events on individuals, such as Harvey in "The Dark Knight" because of The death of his lover and the persuasion of the clown broke out that animal nature and finally turned himself into a double-faced person. As Uncle Bart said in the film, everyone is a beast. The rational side of people can only exist when they are rational, when the surrounding is bad, when the preciousness in life turns to ashes, when the rich life turns into a lonely emptiness with only one person left, what else can inspire you? Sanity? The answer given to us in the film is art, why is this empty and inexplicable? Maybe you can say that art is selfless, so he can influence anyone and change anyone. It's a bit far-fetched, but can we find any other reason? For example, if art can cultivate sentiment, improve thinking, etc., is it not a change of soup or medicine with the above words? There is one part of the film that is often overlooked, that is, when Danny returned to human nature, it actually marked his return to a complex world. Maybe after a long time, Danny will find that this world is not only a beautiful thing like music, Those things that remain in people, those dirty corners of the world are likely to inspire his bestiality again. Danny's frantic beating of Bart at the end of the movie is an example. If it wasn't for Sam and the others, Danny would probably have been red-eyed, and this is exactly what Bart wanted, letting Danny return to his simple animal nature. It is good to let a simple person return to human nature, but is it a little difficult to let him accept a complex world? Not everyone is a good guy like Sam. Man is a complex thing, so obviously man is not the factor that gives salvation to lost children. Place Naturally, art has become the antidote of choice. That piano sound gave Danny a beautiful inner world, so simple things often give people complex ideas. What saved Danny was only the piano sound, the sound that broadened his mind. Of course, art is something created by people. If people can't bring salvation to Danny, but art can, it seems to be a paradox where there are no eggs without chickens. I don't think the human factor can save a person. Even if his words and deeds are as perfect as the great Premier Zhou, he still can't save a sleeping lost person. But people can bring hope, just like Batman in The Dark Knight, he brings hope to the lost. This weak hope can only indirectly arouse the longing belief in people's hearts, and once this belief is awakened, the slumber will end. Art is often more direct and profound than the hope brought by people's words and deeds. Therefore, so many people listen to rock, so many people like to read hazy poetry, and so many people like literature, because art can directly awaken the long-standing beliefs in our hearts and redeem us. So it is people who bring hope, and art that redeems lost children.
Although the action in the film is not much, it is not very enjoyable. But just as an actor's performance can accentuate a character's character, the film's actions fully illustrate the image of a thug. Simple, capable, ruthless, and urgent. Totally the style of a thug with a lack of humanity. After Li Lianjie arrived at Haolaiwu, his movements became more violent and realistic, which was very different from his grandmaster-style Taijiquan in Hong Kong. He seems to have been expounding the situation that the action is violence when he arrived at Holaiu, which is somewhat similar to the theme of martial arts he wanted to express in Huo Yuanjia.
The screenplay was written by Luc Besson for Jet Li. Luc Besson also praised Jet Li well: "He's an amazing actor who has turned his film life upside down." Jet Li has been trying new challenges since arriving at Hollywood (by contrast, Jackie Chan recently Seems to be going that route too), he once said in interviews that he is a person against violence, and he has always been against violence in movies. Although some of Li Lianjie's attempts have not achieved great success, for such an actor who used to rely only on martial arts for food, I think we should admire his spirit of film.
