The golden sunflower

War, revolution, love.
The tones of the film have always been dark, except for that idyllic scene. The most impressive shot for me is the bunch of golden sunflowers, which are very conspicuous against the gray background, revealing a touch of warmth in the cold, and later sunflowers also appeared in the corner of Lana's room, but not for the first time. So bright and warm.
what is that? What does that represent? Ideal, I think. It is an ideal for the future, an ideal for love, and it may represent a deeper meaning.
The moment Lana left Doctor Zhivago, the wind withered the petals, and except for one stubbornly holding its head, the others bowed their heads. Perhaps in the face of the cold wind of reality, the ideal will temporarily bow its head, but it does not seem so desperate, because there is still one, the only remaining ideal.

Doctor Zhivago quotes

  • Pasha: I used to admire your poetry.

    Zhivago: Thank you.

Pasha: I shouldn't admire it now. I should find it absurdly personal. Don't you agree? Feelings, insights, affections... it's suddenly trivial now. You don't agree; you're wrong. The personal life is dead in Russia. History has killed it. I can see why you might hate me.

Zhivago: I hate everything you say, but not enough to kill you for it.

  • Pasha: The private life is dead - for a man with any manhood.

Zhivago: I saw some of your 'manhood' on the way at a place called Minsk.

Pasha: They were selling horses to the Whites.

Zhivago: It seems you've burnt the wrong village.

Pasha: They always say that, and what does it matter? A village betrays us, a village is burned. The point's made.

Zhivago: Your point - their village.
