Just as according to Schopenhauer's point of view, character cannot be changed, then the peasants in the story can only be regarded as the embodiment of will, they are irrational, so the story tells the story of human nature.
Then the beauty of the film, that is, the director's point of view, is to tell his point of view on human nature, which is shown in the fate of the two farmers. A peasant desperately made money for the happiness in his fantasy, showing the desire that ghosts like. After lingering with ghosts for a period of time, he was rescued by a monk. After returning home in repentance, he found that his wife had died. Another peasant wanted to be a samurai wholeheartedly, thinking that such a reputation would make the whole family happy. When he finally got the honor by accident, his wife was raped by a group of soldiers because of his abandonment and lost her reputation. After taking the life of a prostitute, the peasant finally met his wife in a brothel and went home to live anew together.
If there is a mention of human nature, that is, people's greed and desire for fame, maybe the director thinks that the former is worse than the latter. Therefore, the former peasant lost his wife in the end.
Suddenly, I realized again that I was wrong, that I knew little, maybe because I did know little, that I completely misinterpreted what I was seeing.
