The truth that no one knows and the illusion that everyone knows

2009-01-27 18:36:54 A bean friend said that the theme of this film is: "You used to believe in your doubts, and doubts are a kind of faith, but in the end you began to doubt your doubts, which is the doubts about beliefs. . By the way, I gave 4 stars."

I gave this film 3 stars. As I understand it, its subject, as this coperatio said, is nothing but the weakness of individuality. Maybe we will forget it for a while, or maybe we will remember it again after watching this film, maybe we have never ignored it but there is nothing we can do - it's just that this film's emphasis on launching this concept does not seem to have a positive meaning, because it has not found a solution, It will only confuse people even more, and it is at best a Hollywood-style stream-of-consciousness movie that pretends to be somber. It's just that the actors are very dramatic, and the lines are a bit repetitive when the nun and the priest confront each other in the office at the end, but they were quite clear and tense before. It's more like a drama, which can be viewed scene by scene, each with a small theme. For example, in the conversation between the priest and the little nun, it is mentioned that things such as "discriminate the love of others in the name of justice" are also seen everywhere in daily life, that is, if you have good intentions but do bad things, the priest's words are easy to resonate. Yes, but it doesn't mean he's innocent, and of course, it doesn't prove him guilty. So the audience is actually just like this nun who is skeptical from the beginning and unable to determine the truth.

That's the reason I give Samsung, not because of what it's saying, but because it's really well-acted and full of tension. Whether the priest actually violated the black child or not is actually irrelevant in this movie. Its theme is doubt, the characters are doubting, the audience is doubting. Everyone is ignorant of the truth of life, and they are trying their best to believe something, or they will not be able to live.

Maybe this is a more avant-garde film that explores the truth of life on the basis of not ignoring human nature, just because the current era is not as precarious as the old beliefs in the 1960s, and the new beliefs have not yet been established, but it is actually full of confusion. And confusion, there is the problem of not knowing what to believe and whether to persist after the belief in the increasingly rich material life. So everyone expects the film to give an answer, or at least a suggestion, rather than the ambiguity that can't be justified in the end.

So that Hollywood ending isn't everyone's favorite. If the only positive point is that you don’t have to be too persistent in being a person, let’s take a simple example (just be funny), if others want to fight with you to the end, you may get a promotion if you are casual, because most people in this world care about It's not the truth. The only person who cares about the truth can only sigh: In fact, I also have doubts.

Conan said: There is only one truth. Maybe right. It's just that the truth cannot be cared about because too few people know it. On the contrary, everyone has a seemingly clear illusion in their hearts. For this reason, like an old nun, we can hold the only thing we depend on for our entire lives (here, the cross) and say Believe it even in hell - what does this mean for this obsessive believer? Imagination is what really affects our lives!

As a person, you can't stay awake all the time, you can only be careful and don't create an illusion that you shouldn't have.

ps I personally infer that the priest is guilty. Because he finally said that repentance is useless. So he is destined not to repent, and not repenting is the same as not revealing the truth. That means that what he insists now is definitely not the truth. And his outstretched fingers on the basketball court, emphasizing that they are clean, why? Want to cover up some psychological stain (emphasis on cleanness because he feels his fingers are dirty?) Jimmy sitting on the edge was visibly frightened the moment he stretched out his long nails, why? Jimmy's triumphant look when the priest finally announced his departure; what the black boy's mother said: "It was the man who was to blame, Not a child... go find that man if you can" (I secretly thought that was the only real thought in what she said) and her constant repetition of "just endure until June"... Endure? And the scene where Jimmy wakes up at the beginning of the film, the priests gossip while eating (the way they make fun of others is obviously the same raccoon dog)... He wanted to fire the old nun a moment ago, and the next moment he heard that the old nun gave His former old church called and said he had a long history and changed his mind. Is it because people say that they don't want to expand the audio-visual level, or is it really a lot of previous records? It's hard for me to imagine that all his previous 5 transfers were the result of being wronged by stereotyped and authoritarian nuns. The priest said, "There are always things in life that we don't know." That's true. Thank you for making the movie so subtle and not hurting your heart. Of course, this may also be an illusion in my eyes.

Doubt quotes

  • Father Brendan Flynn: [to Sister James] There are people who go after your humanity, Sister, that tell you that the light in your heart is a weakness. Don't believe it. It's an old tactic of cruel people to kill kindness in the name of virtue.

  • Father Brendan Flynn: [to Sister James about Sister Aloysius] The dragon is hungry.
