There's almost every element of American culture we're familiar with: the Texas Wilderness, Chevrolet pickups, NASCAR races, football, Air Force One, country music, nuclear suitcases, Pepsi, the presidential election and Kevin Costner. For me, who is also a PRC citizen and a Hollywood movie fan, it is as cordial as seeing Jia Zhangke's movies.
In general, the attitude of the two candidates in the film towards the protagonist when canvassing votes, to some extent, represents the attitude of an elected government towards the people (even if they are sometimes forced). This may explain why computers and the Internet were invented by the United States more than 400 years after the Ming Dynasty in China. And so the film doesn't need to show a final election result at the end.
