"The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" (The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor): Dust to Dust
(Text / Vulcan Ji)
Emperor and General. Bone is not dry. Why bother, obsessed.
Returning from the past. Only for the illusory Qianqiu hegemony. - Vulcan Ji. Inscription.
It seems that the mummy of ancient Egypt was transplanted into ancient China. The archaeology column of my beloved science and education channel has excavated countless ancient tombs in the land of China. I have seen dry and wet corpses for thousands of years, but mummies are unheard of. However, the Luoyang shovel in Hollywood shoveled out thousands of mummies in the land of China casually. Even if it is a bit unbelievable, what else can we say other than admiring the film industry that Americans take for granted.
Is it because, it's just that my attitude towards this movie is not correct; so I can smell the helplessness of a parody movie in this big Hollywood movie. However, if such a big-budget movie has to ask local fans to "correct" their attitude before they can applaud; then, this may really be a big-budget spoof movie.
It's not that I'm not old-fashioned. But because of such a blunt transplant method, the cultural differences between the local culture and the film are really unacceptable. I neither want to leave the huge commercial profits of the original "The Mummy" series with the success of the film, nor do I have the courage to start a new series of films in a different way, and the theme of Chinese zombies or the resurrection of mummy is obvious. It is more profitable to continue to dig deep into the soft soil on the old themes; and in ancient Egypt, did the screenwriters have their talents born early and the creators had to make a big shift in time and space?
But in my opinion, the taste of this movie is like a peach and a plum. Even the most common Chinese fruit farmer can dig out the biggest criticism of the film - even if Nan Li Bei Tao bears the biggest fruit, it will still be unsatisfactory. I don't really like this movie, I always feel a little bit out of place. It is not necessary to plant the northern plum of the ancient Egyptian mummy in the Zhinan land of China, or to reanimate the Chinese zombie and plant the southern peach into the northern plum like the ancient Egyptian mummy; from the point of view of acclimatization or genetics, it can be easily To refute the film to no avail.
For the Chinese, cultural inheritance over thousands of years may be more than genetic inheritance. This movie is false, trying to dig out the deep-rooted part of Chinese culture that can be called superstition and replace it with Egyptian legends; easier said than done. I may have drawn an inappropriate analogy; however, this analogy aptly describes the unpleasant embarrassment I felt after watching the film.
The mummy is a rare product, and the witch is a rare product; it is rooted in the legend of one emperor through the ages, and it is rooted in the fairyland of Shangri-La; how can a desire for immortality and the desire to conquer the world be realized? It's not that I'm blindly boycotting the parka, it's just that it's debatable whether the parka can be placed in such a way.
Even putting that aside, as a sequel, it's still a failure. The success of a sequel is not measured by the amount of money invested in the sequel, not by how many big-name stars have joined, or by how much its final box office can be; more importantly, its continuation of the storyline Sex, or how much inheritance can be inherited from the previous work in the spiritual framework.
Except for the closeness in character structure and the extension of time sequence, I hardly see much trace of the previous work in the film. And since that's the case, it's a bit hard to understand that it's not clinging to the signboard of "The Mummy".
"The Mummy" has been established as a brand by Hollywood, "The Mummy" is a box office guarantee, and these are true; so "The Mummy" has The Returns (The Mummy Returns), and the prequel "The Scorpion King" (The Scorpion King) and Rise (The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior), these are also indisputable facts.
However, I think this has become a shackle that the film cannot break free. If it is not "The Mummy 3" but just "The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor", there is no mummy but only the cursed Thai army, such an investment and such a team and such a production can make this film a big victory. Because all the things I criticized before no longer exist, it is no longer an unaccustomed product that can capture Chinese movie fans more deeply. As a gimmick, the resurrection army of the ancient Chinese emperor is not necessarily much less attractive to the Western world and the Eastern world than the mummies of ancient Egypt.
So, what kind of eyes to look at this movie will directly affect the final point of view of this movie. If you put aside for a while the strange vision of Chinese mummies as a Chinese movie fan, and put aside the sequel to the classic movie "The Mummy" series; maybe I don't like this movie. Some people say that this is a follow-up work; but I do not agree with this view. It may not be too much to call the "Mummy" series a mink, and it is indeed inappropriate for this movie to continue its tail, but it will not be reduced to a dog's tail.
The film spans more than two thousand years of time and space, and assumes the Terracotta Warriors of the Qin Emperor's Mausoleum as a mummy army sealed by a spell; when the seal is opened, the mummy army wakes up from the ground and takes them with them. The regret of completely conquering this world rushed to the world madly, and the undead spirits who were summoned from the dark world and woke up started the final battle of the undead.
From the death of the Dragon Emperor finally turned to dust, to the final death of those who shouted freedom also turned to dust. Whether it's a return of form, or a return of spirit - dust to dust, dust to dust. Where did it come from, it will eventually go back to where it came from. Such a philosophical thought is undoubtedly in line with our logical thinking, and we cannot say it with a stick to the end - this is a follow-up work.
Whether it is from the perfect special effects of CGI or the hard-working performances of the actors, this movie is still a well-established blockbuster production, and it is not too low-level. Magnificent scenes and exciting sound effects abound .
Don't get your hopes up for the gorgeous big-name movie star in this movie. Brendan Fraser and Maria Bello are only keeping the standard, Jet Li and Huang Qiusheng don't have much room to play, Michelle Yeoh seems to be struggling, and Liang Luoshi's performance is not as good as "Isabel" The gothic girl in Isabella is outstanding, and the disfigured Meng Kwong Mei is not much to watch.
And, don't get too attached to the plot of the movie. Because when I watched this movie, one of my strongest feelings was -- I didn't feel it. It's terrifying that after watching such a big movie, I don't remember anything but its gorgeous special effects. The plot basically revolves around making troubles, and then going to make up for the big troubles that I made. In the end, everyone is happy after making up for the mistakes I made perfectly. Such a straightforward visual feast, what else can we remember.
It can be said that this is completely a film supported by CGI. Its special effects are more eye-catching than all the actors. Don't blame the director Rob Cohen for his limited ability, and don't overly veto the sweat of the actors. Since the main means of expression is spending money, it's still worth entering for its gorgeous CGI production. A trip to the cinema; as long as you do, don't hold out much hope.
And remember, forget that this is the follow-up to the "Mummy" series; also remember that there are not only zombies on the land of China, there may be many mummies lying in places that we can't see. Well, after watching this movie; at least, you won't be as disappointed as I am.
Of course, the last bit of the inaction spirit of dust-to-dust-to-earth can be put to use. Like Dragon Emperor or Qin Huangjun, return all your desires for this movie to nothingness; without desire, there is nothing wrong.
There is no long-term dominance, and everything will eventually return to dust. We are the same, there is nothing to say, everything, in the end, returns to dust.
Everything is beautiful; in the end, it is no match for the passing of time. After the wind stops in the middle of the night; dust returns to dust, and earth returns to earth.
