The film is based on the news program "onion news" as the main line. The announcer Mr.Norm is a serious-looking senior anchor, and the news he broadcasts is known as "the finest news". However, in fact, the content of the program is very trivial and exaggerated, which is pure spoof and satire in the eyes of us moviegoers. But the audience in the movie highly respects "onion news", competing to break the news to create headlines of folk news, and some even resort to extreme means to become famous.
The seemingly straight-forward fake news exposed Americans' deep-rooted national prejudice, racial discrimination, hypocritical morality, money worship, obscene physical inclinations, vanity, and the crazy entertainment-oriented mentality brought about by the pervasive media. The audience who watched The Onion News in the movie were crazy about the unrealistic characters and porn star hunk, and turned a deaf ear and indifferent to the non-entertainment news.
The old broadcaster Norm unconsciously compromised his own values to broadcast, to the point where he only reported news that was beneficial to the TV station and satisfied the public's vulgar taste. He woke up once and decided to say something conscientious about the media to the audience, only to be disrupted by a Hollywood-style farce deliberately arranged by the TV station. The news program was temporarily changed to a series of thrilling "fighting terrorism" performances, in effect surreptitiously advertising the upcoming blockbuster. The male anchor was dazed by the dazzling performance, unable to distinguish the boundary between reality and entertainment.
While I was laughing, I was also thinking about how Americans satirize their own entertainment-centric way of entertaining movies. This also shows from one side that the influence of entertainment on the American people and even the people of the world cannot be underestimated. I saw the courage of Americans. But it is not easy to truly and frankly admit the inferiority and scum culture of one's own nation.
