The feeling of Annabel 2’s film is that it is shocking but not dangerous. Surprise is the panic that various special effects bring to the audience. Risk is the adventurous feeling that the plot brings to the audience.
Let me talk about a major feature of the whole movie. The so-called uncanny valley is a process in which human beings change their feelings from their initial goodwill to fear and disgust when they see things that are extremely similar to their own appearance and behavior, and the doll happens to be in the uncanny valley. Think back to the doll in the film again. It has a similar appearance to humans-correct facial features and unpredictable smiles, similar behaviors-will resist accounting, and even have similar thoughts-in order to survive struggle. At the beginning, you may be curious about it or want to approach it, but as the doll slowly approaches, fear and disgust arise spontaneously. This is the proof of the Uncanny Valley theory in the film.
As a horror film, its special effects are very successful. Let me talk about its background music first. What I remember most is the clip of Annabel’s Janice "chasing" her friend. When chasing, bgm was anxious and slow. When the friend turned around and found that the doll was in the same room with her At that time, bgm suddenly thumped, which made people scared. Speaking of post-processing, this must be mentioned in this clip. Janice enters Bi (the late little girl)’s room and finds Bi standing by the window. Suddenly Bi turns her head and sees Bi’s face seems to be covered with black. Loach, you can't describe it as horrible. So the special effects are "surprised".
However, this plot can be said to be terrible. The plot of Annabel 2 is really like a horror movie, not to mention that the plots of the three films in the Annabel series are all the same, just say that its plot is nothing new, and the plots of other horror films are similar. As an audience, I can guess the next step in the plot. Generally, when Annabel is going to do xxx again or xxx is going to die, the plot can be guessed. Then, what else is there to see in the whole movie? Therefore, there is no "risk" in the plot, and I hope the director can work hard on the plot when he arranges other horror films.
This is the surprise of the movie, please enlighten me!
