He is a member of a coastal rescue team, he holds all the records in the history of the academy and is a legendary figure in this circle. He never boasted of his previous achievements. He only used his life to defend the lives of countless people for the belief in his heart. He tried his best to become the miracle in the hearts of those in danger. Perhaps even he himself could not explain the value of this belief to his life. He lost his beloved and the happiness he deserved as a husband because of this belief. What did this belief get him? Except for a series of records that he didn't value, the kind of spiritual redemption obtained by saving dying lives. An accident caused him to lose his comrade-in-arms who shared his life and death. As the only survivor, he fell into deep self-blame and pain.
He was the best student in Ivy League history, with an almost repulsive confidence. His claim to surpass all records held by his teacher has made the teacher with countless rescue experiences have high hopes for him deep down. However, the teacher did not relax his training, on the contrary, he doubled down on him. The teacher knew that he had the same belief as himself in his heart - the belief that he was willing to give everything in order to save the lives of others. Thus, the common belief binds the two closely together. Every time he made a mistake, especially because of his arrogance, he would be severely punished by the teacher. After disappointment again and again, the teacher once wanted him to leave forever. He vented his dissatisfaction hysterically, fearing that he would lose his only chance to work for his faith. He poured out his heart to the teacher loudly: "I am here to save lives!" Yes, he also lost his teammates who fought side by side because of an accident, and that painful moment tormented him. He wants to save as many lives as possible with the rest of his life, not only for his dead teammates, but also for his spiritual redemption. But he is too young, so young that he has not had time to recognize his own abilities, so young that he thinks that as long as he has the ability, he can keep up with the pace of that great faith. He is proud, even a little arrogant, he does not know how to cherish his talent, and even use it as his willful capital. What is valuable is that he is kind and sincere; fortunately, he has met a teacher worthy of his lifelong gratitude. No one understood his mood better than the teacher, and the same experience further strengthened the bond between the two. He was destined to become the teacher's successor, and he was destined to continue the career of the teacher's life-long fight for faith.
He finally matured, understood everything the teacher taught, and became the most proud memory in the teacher's life. The first time he performed the mission, he showed outstanding talent, and it was the unchanging belief in his heart that gave him a powerful energy. But it was also that mission that awakened the most heavy memory in the teacher's heart, and the teacher decided to give up the rescue business. This decision was made not only because the teacher felt that he was powerless, but more importantly, because the teacher firmly believed that he could continue to fight for his beliefs. On the afternoon he left, the teacher said that of all the missions he was involved in, 22 people had lost their lives, a number that would never be made up, no matter how many lives he had saved. When the teacher turned to leave, he strengthened his belief as a rescue team-to fight with all his strength for every life.
That night, he had his first really tough challenge and got himself into trouble trying to save a dying life. At the most critical moment, he saw the teacher's figure. Although he was no longer agile, he was always firm. The two worked together to get out of the predicament. Yet again, at the last minute, God made a joke with them. Faced with the choice that only one person can survive, the teacher left him the chance to survive without hesitation, while he buried himself in the sea with the same belief.
He is destined to be a rescuer as good as the teacher, not only because of the belief in life in his heart, but also because he always believes that the teacher is always fighting with him.
Regarding the film "The Great Adventure",
both the ideas and the actors are first-class, but the screenwriter has serious deviations in the guiding ideology. The film that ends for the sake of the ending is obviously a lower-level work. However, it is worth watching for the characters shown in the story, for the sacrifice of the rescuers, and for Kevin Costner's acting skills.
