A powerless movie

This film was recommended to me by Mercedes-Benz in Duba. It tells the story of a Japanese samurai in the 19th century. The first paragraph, I think it is more exciting, very catchy kind. Suddenly, the old man who went to the mountain to worship Buddha was killed by Ryunosuke. Then it was a duel, and an affair with the opponent's woman. The rhythm is also very tight.

In fact, the film has a bit of metaphysical color from the beginning, mainly because the old man's words are relatively mysterious. In the end, the film is wrapping a less brutal Japanese samurai with a low-level story. I feel that the fate of this samurai is not good, and it is aggressive. It is not disappointing, but it still has a cruel heart. It's a pity that the film did not use more shots and details to support the kind of weirdness and cruelty that it should have. In addition, the story happened in a distant ancient times, and it seems very strange to modern people.

The theme of the film also seems vague, and it ends with the samurai seeing the granddaughter of the old man he killed and, for some reason, going mad, to the end. The subtext seems to say that this samurai's life ended like this.

If it is a psychological film or a biopic about a personal journey, it is still a bit shallow. The only bright spot seems to be the depressing Japanese ballads and those samurai fighting scenes like those in a fighting game.

The Sword of Doom quotes

  • Ohama: Yes, do that! That's how you are! Kill Hyoma! Kill everyone! Kill everyone in the world!

    Ryunosuke Tsukue: Not everyone...

  • Toranosuke Shimada: [to Hyoma, preparing for his duel with Ryunosuke] You can't sleep because you're intent on winning. Don't think about winning or surviving. Be prepared to die. Risk everything, and you might have a chance. Go lie down with a calm mind.
