In my opinion, 9➕, which loves death and robots, is another phenomenon-level exaggeration. I personally think that its score should be in the upper 8th.
It took more than two hours to watch the eighteen episodes in one go a week ago. Undoubtedly, this is definitely a work that represents the world's top animation industry. After thinking about it again and again, I still feel that the word "industry" should be added to emphasize that this is a "copyable" work created within a mature system and following a standard production process. This is not derogatory, but definitely It's not a commendation, especially for a "Death of Love" that went all the way with titles like gods and benchmarks.
As produced by different animation studios, the series showed several distinct and distinctive styles. The post-industrial/heavy metal/cyberpunk style that has appeared many times has been well received. I think this may be the most preferred type of sci-fi aesthetics in recent years. The large use of this style in this drama can be said to be explosive. The g point of the audience. This work really did a lot of work in terms of form.
But what makes me unsatisfied is that this is almost a work built entirely with "spectacle"-style brain-hole plots, such as alien interracial anomalies, murder in time and space, civilization in the refrigerator, metal modified fox monsters, etc. Wait.
For me, what's the problem with this?
First of all, the stimulation of this high-intensity spectacle can produce antibodies, especially for fans of me who have been immersed in all kinds of suspense thrillers for many years. Whenever I see the reversal at the end, it is not without being a little surprised, but it is nothing more than that. It is inevitable that I will find a very similar plot structure in the film library soon, which will inevitably make people feel a little disappointed.
In addition, in my impression, except for the episode of Qi Malan, which has further thinking about life and the universe, the other episodes basically stopped after showing the spectacle. The pursuit of spectacles is not a problem, only spectacles are the biggest crux of the show. Love, death, and robots are the three topics, all of which are just a taste, and none of them are discussed more deeply.
Why movies like Blade Runner Space Odyssey have become sci-fi classics? It is absolutely impossible because they only show the wonders of the brain hole, but because of their broader propositions about human beings, artificial intelligence, the universe and life, etc. Have a serious attitude and willingness to explore, and I think this is something that most dramas don’t have.
The purpose of the creative team seems to be to stimulate the audience's adrenal glands with ten minutes of quick and accurate plot and then change to the screaming "I'll go!" without any deep interest in digging.
But these plots are not completely novel to movie fans, so they are not enough to enjoy the dividends of "the first person to eat crabs", that is to say, only the superficial plots can be "surprising enough without the inner spirit "deep enough". Is enough to conquer the audience.
You may have to gnaw at me. What is the profound connotation. It takes ten minutes for one episode and two or three hours for a movie. Is that comparable? Isn't this a hooligan?
But I think that if you want to arrange a topic clearly, you can write a million-character book to discuss it, and when you are limited by the number of words and you can’t make a big splash, even if you just raise the question, don’t Any expansion is possible. But I think I can’t even ask questions.
Not to mention that some episodes don't even have "Brain Hole Spectacle"—the last episode must be criticized by name. The lifelike form of the animated characters in this episode can be said to have reached the stage, but the story can be so lacking to be so, it is really regrettable.
In summary, Love Death Machine is undoubtedly excellent, but its room for improvement is far more than 10 minus 9.4.
