like to debate this

Movies I follow because I like to debate.

However, after reading it, I found that it is basically impossible to see various debate skills and wonderful games in it; however, I can see that in such an era, such a group of black people, for their freedom , their rights, and continue to fight.

It is a typical American inspirational film, but it still gives people a strong feeling.

There's a line in it that I love, when they're training, and when they trust each other.

"Who's the judge?"

"Judge's God."

"Why's God?"

"Cause he decides who's the winners and losers, not my opponent."

"Who's your opponent?"

"He doesn't exist."

"Why doesn't he exist?"

"Cause the truth exists in our speech."

ps: Uh. . . Because it was written down by dictation, I didn't hear the last sentence clearly, so I translated it according to my general awareness and my understanding. . . Interpreting and listening have been stupid these days.

Whatever the focus of the film, I still see that kind of trust and support among teammates in the debate. Even if they are constantly arguing and insisting on their own views, they still cannot shake their friendship.

I hope that when I become a coach next year, I can feel the joy of debate again.

The Great Debaters quotes

  • Melvin B. Tolson: Take the meanest, most restless nigger. Strip him of his clothes in front of the remaining male niggers, female niggers, and nigger infants, tar and feather him, tie each leg to a horse facing an opposite direction, set him on fire, and beat both horses until they tear him apart in front of male, female and nigger infants. Bullwhip and beat the remaining nigger males within an inch of their life. Do not kill them but put the fear of God in them, for they can be useful for future breeding. Anybody know who Willie Lynch was? Anybody? Raise your hand. No one? He was a vicious slave owner in the West Indies. The slave-masters in the colony of Virginia were having trouble controlling their slaves, so they sent for Mr. Lynch to teach them his methods. The word "lynching" came from his last name. His methods were very simple, but they were diabolical. Keep the slave physically strong but psychologically weak and dependent on the slave master. Keep the body, take the mind.

  • Henry Lowe: School's the only place you can read all day. Except prison.
