Knowing Joy Division is because of Kurt Cobain, the first time I saw the band's name was in "Brilliant Nirvana".
A teacher once said that many geniuses who played rock died at the age of 27. So when he was 27 years old, he gave away or put away his favorite rock records. At the time we all just laughed, even thought it was a bit exaggerated. It wasn't until he was a little older, listening to the music he used to listen to, that he realized how ignorant our laughter was.
"Control" was introduced by a friend, and after he read it, I said he was disappointed. So it has been quietly occupying my hard disk space for a long time, and I have never found the right mood to watch it. In this hot summer midnight, I suddenly chose it directly in a bunch of movies without any hesitation.
Black and white, youth, melancholy, narcissism, rock, band, a big "HATE" on the back of the clothes... At first I thought it was another rebellious American youth film, or at least it was like "Psychedelic Park" "That kind.
Along with the songs of many well-known rock musicians or bands in the film, I saw the name Joy Division several times. It turned out that the unhappy band called "Warsaw" was Joy Division's previous life. The film is going to tell the story of this rock genius named Ian Curtis.
When I watched it, I kept thinking about whether geniuses are special, such as early marriages, serious illnesses, sensitivity, anxiety, and dislike of the old. I'm even wondering if Ian would still be such a genius if he didn't have epilepsy.
I have seen this kind of disease when I was very young. It was probably in the second or third grade of elementary school. There was a girl in the class who had this kind of disease. Sometimes she would have a sudden attack during class. Learned some things to watch out for when this disease strikes. It's just that I was too young at that time, and I didn't know the harm that such a disease would do to a person. Even naively thinking that it is a disease that only children have, and will get better when they grow up.
Maybe the death was also planned by Ian. That episode just gave him the right time. I tried to find the reason for his suicide:
growing epilepsy. Frequent seizures, completely out of control, and there is nothing to do in life except to constantly give him test drugs, and those drugs have no effect except side effects;
pressure and discomfort to fame. He sang because he liked it, but later singing no longer made him happy, but became a pressure. People asked for more than he could bear;
the love that hovered between two women. I believe he loves Debbie, but he loves Annick too, and he needs their love like a child. He didn't want to hurt them, and he didn't want any of them to leave him, but after all, it couldn't be balanced.
And his daughter. He must be ashamed of her, so he kept blaming himself for not being a good father. He said that the child will definitely hate him when he grows up. Looking at his helpless expression when the child was born, I think he actually doesn't know how to be this dad at all.
Such a movie is destined to cause countless controversies. People who like Joy Division must have their own Ian Curtis in their hearts; but for those who don't know it, such a movie is too depressing. Ian Curtis's always bleary-eyed and unsmiling face doesn't make him happy at all.
Seeing the sentence that freezes at the end of the film: "Ian Curtis died on May 18, 1980, at the age of 23."
I'm thinking that this genius didn't live to his 27th.
