This movie, as always, is about the big events of the little people (the bad guy like Jack Black can't play the big ones), but the plot design and scene construction are not satisfactory. I've always wondered why the residents of that neighborhood would love their shoddy remakes, each starring Jack Black!
But nostalgia is always a good thing, and perhaps the only thing that can hold a community together is nostalgia. To use a phrase that Hong Kong people like to use most, that is collective memory. It's something that belongs to everyone, the nerve stimulation that tugs at that string in everyone's head the most.
This may be the only highlight of the film.
