"If the film has any resemblance to the facts, the living or the dead, it is not a coincidence, it is intentional."

"The names of some characters in the film have been changed to protect the prototypes in their lives and to protect the film."

Definitely a movie worth seeing at least once. Editing Françoise Bonnot won an Oscar, and she went on to cut Legion of Shadows (her mother was Melville's cut of some of her previous work), and Gabriel's The Great Disappearance, which I think compares to that. One, "The Big Missing" is more difficult to show the editing level.

  • Vago: This guy leaps onto the truck bed, lithe and ferocious as a tiger. He grabs me - and whoosh! Out I go into the street.

Examining Magistrate: How did he leap?

    Vago: Like a tiger.

    Examining Magistrate: Before that.

Vago: Lithe and ferocious as a tiger.

Examining Magistrate: Yago used the same exact phrase.
