The director of "The Invisible Guest" has made another masterpiece, a Spanish suspense drama produced by Netflix. The eight episodes are short and concise. Personally, I feel that the first 2 episodes are particularly well prepared for the suspense, which makes the audience puzzled and seems to be an unrelated man released from prison. The lawyer and the sonorous female sheriff who inherited his father's ambitions began to connect in the third episode.
There are no extra supporting roles in the play. Everyone comes out with their own mission or "secret", love-hate entanglement, the temptation of money power, whether they can still stick to the last "justice" in their hearts, if they can't complete "self-redemption", death Will it be the only relief, the living people have been living in guilt and self-blame, which is probably a greater torture than death.
Although there are reversal nodes buried in every episode of the whole drama, there are basically good follow-ups to fill these holes. But I have to complain about Jin Mi's practice in episode 7. Perhaps the former "lover" Campbell abandoned her, so the same person who was once "trampled" by men, but when they meet again after many years, they have to use the same method. "Revenge" each other, why women can't unite together to become better, it's so confusing!
There is also a female sheriff who saw the SWAT detective who committed suicide begging herself not to tell his daughter about his evil deeds in that videotape. The female sheriff collapsed and thought of her father who committed suicide. Maybe this is the screenwriter's order I want to arouse the sheriff's "heart knot", but Yu Li said that a police officer who committed suicide is just "deserving what he deserves". What emotional resonance can there be with the suicide of the sheriff's father? We can't sympathize with one who does The "devil" of all bad things.
It was only at the end that it was discovered that all this turned out to be a deadly "revenge plan" carefully planned by the grieving father who lost his son in middle age. One of the two couples is a despicable father who seems to be stubborn and the mastermind behind all events, and the other is a great mother who seems to be influenced by the male protagonist to choose to forgive and complete "self-redemption". We can't judge who is right and who is wrong, just like because of "accidents" "Dead" Danny, no one can forgive the "perpetrator" Matt in place of the dead. My intuition tells me that the male protagonist is by no means a good person. He seems to be the person corresponding to the title of "Innocent". He has been portraying him as the one who takes the blame, but I always feel that he is the one who is good at pretending to be "innocent". Kind", the "biggest" boss who manipulates the minds of others, gains sympathy from others, and holds "dark secrets" in his heart.
Of course, the theme of the whole drama is quite clear-cut. There are not only the foreshadowing of the reversal, but also the pictures of the fragrant and bloody, as well as those "upper-class elites" who control the power of money and do "devil" behaviors to satisfy their desires. The play does not denounce every "guilty" person, just like in the real society, under the framework of law and morality, only the "tip of the iceberg" is tried and punished. As the general public, we have no way of knowing how deep the dark abyss is, and of course we don't have to. After all, "when you are staring at the abyss, the abyss is also staring at you"!
