In Texas in the 1930s, blacks were disenfranchised, segregated and discriminated against in employment, justice, military service, marriage, and more. Mel Tolson wants his fellow citizens to do something. He formed the first black college debate team at the school. After careful selection, four students stood out: Hamilton, Henry, Samantha and James. On the way to the growth of the debate team, Mel constantly challenged the traditional concepts of the society at that time.
