Moisturizing is silent

Steven said he was home alone for a long time when he was a kid with only Mr. Rogers by his side. I haven't watched his show, but after watching the documentary, I finally understand why he is loved by so many people. He said to the children I like you just the way you are... thank you for being you. This kind of unconditional fraternity is indeed similar to the love of God for the world in Christianity, but when he said these words sincerely in a full and equal capacity as a child, I think his love is more powerful than any God's love. Two of the most impressive episodes: One is when he persuaded congressmen to give PBS $200,000 in funding, and the other is his interaction with Koko, the gorilla, who does have a magic power that makes people (even animals) believe he's close he. The documentary concludes by saying that there is no place for good people in today's TV shows. Yes, now they all rely on ghosts and animals to swear at people to earn traffic. . . The sincerity, gentleness and kindness of Mr. Rogers will be missed.

  • [regarding the urban legends surrounding Fred]

Tom Junod: That, to me, is just, like, a classic example of people looking at Fred in all his eccentricity and singularity, and trying to basically say, "Well, that can't be. He has to be this way."

  • Fred Rogers: [sternly] I am tired of hearing people who have long ago set aside the concerns of childhood, telling everybody what children really need. I'll tell you what children need. They need adults who will protect them from the ever-ready molders of their world.
