A Beginner's Guide to Twin Peaks

In particular, I don't like watching TV dramas, and I often give up after watching one or two episodes. The reason is that most TV shows have too little information, and when you watch them, you just want to fast-forward and skip a lot of episodes. Later, I didn't even watch it, I just watched a recap of a popular TV series, and it was done in 20 minutes, saving time and effort.

"Twin Peaks" as a normal drama, is very outrageous. There is no plot line, no core conflict, no dramatic tension. All in all, no one wants to watch it while eating. In terms of plot, the first two seasons explained a case that could be explained in about a sentence, and then more than 30 episodes started from this incident. So, I think this is not a TV series at all, it should be a movie or some kind of very trivial and long novel. With such psychological expectations, the viewing process is much smoother. David Lynch himself said (probably this): "Movies are more like music, requiring a lot of foreshadowing, contrasts and specific arrangements... It can't be done in one step". I couldn't agree more with this statement and benefited from the idea. The post-viewing experience of "Twin Peaks" will be far greater than that of any TV series (I don't think it is possible in the future, you can refer to my evaluation of the third season later). At this point, I also want to record and sort out my own viewing experience.

Twin Peaks Season 1 (1990)
9.0
1990 / United States / Crime Drama Mystery / David Lynch Duveen Dunham Tina Rathburn Tim Hunt Leslie Linka Glatter Caleb Deschanel Mark Frost/Kyle McLachlanMedchen Amick

In hindsight, I felt that an inappropriate example was given. The first season consisted of eight episodes. I was in a trance and thought I was reading the first 80 episodes of Dream of Red Mansions. Because the inexplicable dozen episodes in the middle of the second season deepened my thoughts. In addition to David Lynch, Mark Frost contributed. The conspiracy theory theme he created, coupled with the bizarre setting of various symbols and signs, coupled with the bizarre narrative style of David Lynch, simply can't match.

Twin Peaks Season 2 (1990)
8.3
1990 / United States / Crime Drama Mystery / David Lynch Leslie Linka Larter Todd Holland Graeme Clifford Caleb Deschanel Tim Hunter Tina La Spoon, Duveen Dunham, Uli Edel, Diane Keaton, James Frey, Jonathan Sanger, Stephen Gyllenhaal, Kyle MacLachlan, Michael Ungern

The season of mixed reviews also planted the seeds for the third season. In addition to being forced to close the case in the first season, finally throwing a 25-year-old unresolved question. However, even if the middle half director David Lynch runs away, the worldview still retains the mysterious core there. And following Mark's supplementary novel, he was stunned to round up the whole plot without any loss of price.

Twin Peaks: Walking With Fire (1992)
7.9
1992 / French American / Drama Horror Mystery / David Lynch / Shirley Lee Ray Wise

Taking the film as the dividing line, David Lynch completely took over the entire Twin Peaks follow-up. In addition to listing some necessary hints and clues, the film is basically a remake of the core plot of the first season, and the comedy elements and weird settings that I like more have also been eliminated by the director.

Twin Peaks Season 3 (2017)
8.8
2017 / United States / Drama Crime Mystery / David Lynch / Kyle MacLachlan Shirley Lee

I prefer to call it, "Twin Peaks: The Return of David Lynch Director's Cut." Basically, the original settings were all disrupted, and it is said that this is also the director's intention. If you also take the inappropriate example of Dream of Red Mansions, it feels like the real post-forty sequel has seen the light of day again. But this sense of separation in time makes the whole drama full of dejected atmosphere. This is all about generating love for love, so I also think that this kind of TV series is a living fossil in 2017, and Lynch himself really instilled this idea.

At this point, it is recommended to appreciate the four and a half hours of interpretation by the host twin perfect after reading it. I don't really want to comment on whether the whole work has a clue of meta elements buried in the beginning, because art works are inadvertently projected on the afterimage of the real world. I also agree that if there is such a work that can withstand such interpretation and analysis, whether it is intentional or not by the author is not so important.

Some things, let's see and cherish it.
