Phyllis is fundamentally a feminist through and through, she needs an outlet to convey her ideas to the masses, she needs a collective to demonstrate her leadership, she holds the banner of traditional women's housewife but radically expresses all Qualities of a feminist. I want to understand this as a kind of inferiority and revenge. She has a degree, brain, and her own political interpretation. She has everything that a right-wing political girl should have, but she can only stay at home, take care of 6 children and prepare dinner at 6 o'clock. The family is not her Although she shouted slogans, she was not proud of it. Anti-feminism was just an outlet for her accumulated squeamishness, and any issue could become her outlet as long as she was given a chance to output.
Some commentators will say that Phyllis's remarks are narrow-minded, equating her surroundings with the world, and if she doesn't see discrimination, she thinks that discrimination doesn't exist. But I don't think she's invisible, she's not narrow-minded, she just doesn't care, she just needs a position where she can shine, and she doesn't care about women who desperately need power on the opposite side, she doesn't even care. She doesn't care about the women standing behind her, whether they are happy or not, she clearly understands that she needs to go to the front, run around, and enter the cabinet in order to achieve her ambitions, but the banner she holds high is for thousands of housewife. She can stay at home safely and happily. It's not that she can't see the sorrow of those housewives. She just knows that this group is most easily deceived and she won't become that. As Bella said, "Phyllis is a liar, a fearmonger, and a con artist. But worst of all, she's a goddamn feminist”
Aside from this character, the most impressive segment is the segment where Alice and Bella met before and after the stage.
Housewife: “we don't want to be working girls. Phyllis is our savior, everything we know, we learned from her”
Bella: “what have you learned from her, has she taught you how to lobby legislators?”
Housewife: “of course” (proud)
Bella: "has she taught you how to draft a speech?"
Housewife: "y~e~s~"
Bella: "how to answer reporters 'questions, get the tv interview?"
Housewife: "yes"
Bella: “how to create a budget and balance it?”
Housewife: "yes"
Bella: “congratulations, you are working girls”
