"Even if I watched the entire movie twice, I still wonder whether this is a science fiction film. Except for the hints at the beginning of the movie and the plot of the ending idea, this is completely different from the science fiction movie in which space station rockets fly together in my mind. But. From the overall taste, I found that this label may be cleverly added, because the film itself traces its origins. The stalker is like a crossroads. We stand at this point. The two roads ahead are science fiction and the other is mysticism. Looking to the past, they are sometimes separated and sometimes intertwined with each other. And my thinking about the meaning of science fiction has changed from focusing on symbols to focusing on thoughts. And beyond science fiction itself, this is a world that people born in this world should go to. The movies we watch, because we are human beings, after watching this work, we will think about the souls sneaking in this world, traversing thousands of years."

The first time I saw the stalker, I thought that the three in the movie had reached harmony or had become a balance with each other, that is, the writer represents the humanities, the scientist represents the technology, and the stalker represents the faith, and this movie is like a fable, and the main theme The impression in my mind seems to be like admonition. Now that I re-watch it the second time, there are so many insights. Although the first time I didn't think deeply, it also brought a lot of impressions. At least, the confusion caused by the first viewing wants me to savor it a second time.
Note: Next, I will delve into the meaning of the stalker and some other characters in the first part, and delve into the overall meaning of the movie in the second part.
Stalker
I originally thought that the stalker was really just a simple and incompetent person, who seemed to have the secret of entering the room, and took people on some seemingly meaningless adventures. Even if he mentioned trusting me, he sneered: What trust? You can bring anyone in. I think he is ignorant, poor, is that room really useful? He seems to be just an ignorant citizen deceived by some mysterious phenomenon. On the contrary, scientists and writers still seem to have knowledge and philosophies. If you look at it this way, it would be better to treat stalkers as entering science.
In fact, thinking about it seriously, I found that the stalker outlined in various details is far deeper than we initially thought.
Remember at the end, the stalker stated that he would no longer take anyone to the "room", and he was hurting himself. And the wife may ask him out of comfort if he can take her to the "room" by herself. The stalker said blankly, "No, because what if the room doesn't work for you?"
Seeing this, I have a question, why would the stalker say such a thing? Did he know that the "room" would sometimes not work? Then why does he bring other people to the "room"? Is this a deception?
I was thinking that this room may not be able to realize the wish, but it can bring hope. As the stalker said, the more desperate you are, the more effective here. Maybe this "room" just brings some psychological effects. A person is desperate, but when the stalker brings them here, they are full of hope and feel that life will be better. In fact, their mentality has changed and life may be really better. It is unclear whether the "Room" actually fulfilled their wishes.
I suddenly thought of the word "faith" repeatedly emphasized by the stalker before. The stronger the belief, the more effective the "room". This reminds me of a concept "religion". Whether it’s throwing a nut or going into the "zone" according to the planned route, an idea came to my mind when I watched it. "This is like some kind of sacrificial ceremony. "Looking back now, I think this series is like a metaphor for "religion". , People enter the room, expecting that everything will get better, and the room seems to be the "god". In fact, is there really a god? Or is it really because of the power of God that people get better?
A devout believer, the stalker, has always sincerely believed that people will get better when they enter the room. In my eyes, he has turned into the shadow of thousands of idealists. Here, the definition of religion and belief has broken through our cognition. On weekdays, I dare not talk about such things because I don’t know them well. But the stalker gave me an idea, and I wanted to say it.
What is our belief?
People believe that one thing will bring hope to themselves, just as one who walks into that "room" can satisfy one's own wishes. But no matter what kind of belief it is, what is hidden under the medium of gods or rooms is ideals and hopes, and the things to be pursued are lost in the heart. This is the last thing a stalker wants to see. God may be the aggregation of all the good things in the world. Our belief in God or "room" is that we still have great enthusiasm for life, and we still need hope. And it is this pursuit of beauty that makes us human. This kind of pure beauty makes us idealists and sometimes stalkers. Tarkovsky may just use the metaphor of "room" to express the meaning of God. In fact, everyone has different beliefs. Some people want to fulfill their dreams of master art, and some people want a happy family, but we If we still have enthusiasm and hope for life, and are willing to enter the "room", to pray, to be optimistic, we still have faith, and we will eventually realize our wishes. Religion and belief are not hypocritical, because it refers not only to the religions in the world that may be officially recognized, but also to what we believe in our hearts.
In fact, we don't need to rely on some kind of medium to gain hope, such as "room" or "god", because it appears hypocritical and insincere. Now everyone knows that hard work can be successful. However, the stalker is not hypocritical. It seems that he is insisting on some absurd things, throwing nuts, and taking detours. In fact, he has been insisting on his ideals. For example, in reality, there will definitely be people who despise your dreams. Your path is simply unworkable. In their opinion, your behavior is similar to those seemingly useless mysterious rituals and nut-throwing behaviors, but you firmly believe that you will succeed in this way. At this time you have become a "stalker", an idealist, insisting on something you believe to be. Can you say you are hypocritical? No, you are doing what you think is the most sincere thing, so it is the same with religions and stalkers. You think they are hypocritical and insincere, but in fact they are the most sincere. Because this is the way they approve. No one can comment on what kind of standard "doing" is, but no matter how you say it, the stalker sticks to his own path and has never wavered. He is the incarnation of an idealist in the world. He is a kind person, he is not a god who decides life and death, but he chooses to believe-he feels that no matter how good or bad a person is, his love for life should not disappear.
Arts and Science
I bet that most people in the world cannot live just like one of these three people in their entire lives. I mean, most of us will switch between stalkers, writers, and scientists. The writer and the scientist finally learned the truth about the "room". They sat together, relatively speechless. And the attitude towards the bar when they finally went back was much more stable than when they first came to the bar, presumably they had also thought of a lot.
Most people are like writers most of the time, respecting but not believing. They see the truth, reality, and thoughtful. Some people are sometimes like scientists and want to destroy the "room", even if it ends up in the end.
The author asks the stalker why the porcupine hangs himself after getting the money. Perhaps the stalker is at a loss, because the stalker did not expect what to do if a person does not even pursue it. So the writer has seen through the truth of the room: if a person does not pursue, or after pursuing satisfaction, there will be no sincere hope, then there is only a dead end. So writers and scientists are reluctant to enter the room because they know that they did not come to the room with their most sincere desires, that is, they know that the room is only a positive psychological effect, and they are not sincere enough, so it will not work. They don't even have something profound to pursue. Many times, we may live in this state. Doing nothing all day long, ignoring the deep things around us, so they use art to awaken those numb souls, just as the stalker said:
Let everything happen as planned, let them believe, and let them know how ridiculous their passion is.
Because what they call passion is not actually spiritual energy at all.
That is just a friction between the soul and the outside world. More importantly, it convinces them that they are as vulnerable and helpless as children. Because fragility is valuable, and strength is not worth mentioning.
When a person is born into the world, his original appearance is weak and weak. When he was about to die, he became more stiff and dull. When a tree sprouts and grows, it is so lush and graceful, and when it is withered and stiff, it also moves toward death.
Stiffness and struggle are the messengers of death. Weakness and weakness are the signs of living life.
You know, once you start struggling, you will end up with an irresistible fate of death.
The thoughtfulness of writers and scientists at the end may be because their ideals have also been awakened. Even if they didn't enter the room, they finally knew the meaning of the ideal. They may get rid of the previous hardships in reality. Our soul is flashing and changing among writers, scientists, and stalkers. Even if we are fragile and hurt again, we still will not give up our simple ideals and forgive those things that hurt ourselves...This is divinity-I mean, what a beautiful and pure quality this is. We are always kind and we always forgive.
Let us respect all those who love life.
At this point, I think this movie is too realistic. In fact, we live in the "zone" every day, don't we?
People attribute these to mysticism. In fact, movies may explore the real reason behind mysticism. In fact, I really want to sigh that science fiction and fables are actually very similar. And a true science fiction film is not as long as there is a rocket or a space station as a symbolic thing, but is really standing at a height to consider the future. Here, the definition of science fiction is no longer the symbol, but the height of the thought. Perhaps in the end, civilization and humanities are what we can't abandon... This also brings me new understanding.
Combining my two paragraphs above, I suddenly understood the lines of the writer in the film:
In the past, the future was seen as a continuation of the present, and it shone with a faintly changing light behind the horizon. But now, the future and the present have merged into one.
···································································································· The eternal pursuit of ideals and hopes is the source of mankind.
By the way, the little girl who can use thoughts gives me the feeling like the mad woman in Andrei Rublev—Holy Fool. On the surface, maybe this is to illustrate the authenticity of the "zone" pollution or to set off the atmosphere, but I think the little girl is the most superficial and direct manifestation of "searching for God in human nature." She directly pushed the cup with her mind, but the mad woman turned into a Virgin and walked on the shallows. I guess that she might be like a mad woman riding a white horse and turning into a Virgin, a person who doesn't understand anything, but because of the simplest obsession in her heart, she accurately demonstrated the divinity.
