cool bones, ice society

There is a black-and-white clip of chainsaw logging squirrels scurrying around and birds congregating on a tree. Personally, I think this is what the director wants to express, which is why he was nominated for an Oscar.

Ruijiao's younger brother and sister hunted squirrels, peeled the squirrel's skin, and took out the squirrel's internal organs. My brother asked us if we want to eat internal organs? Rui replied that it is not necessary for the time being.

Think carefully about why Rui is looking for her father? The answer is to find their father (the body) and they can keep their home. He sawed off his father's body in the biting water of winter and got the icy bones, but he got the hope of being alive the next spring.

The squirrel represented the Rui family, and the squirrel that had been skinned and gutted represented his father, indicating that he did not want to use his father's bones in the end.

The pile of black birds refers to the so-called families in the mountains. Everything is bound to a tree. It is a very scary and creepy gang.

The whole movie is actually without a glimmer of hope. The Rui family, like everyone else, can never get out. Even if they study or other things, they can't change anything. Maybe this movie just shows a fragment of a desperate life. Although I don't know the ending, I can't think of how good it is, at least it doesn't have to freeze to death now.

His father was killed by the boss of the family because of his whistleblowing. Everyone in the mountain area knew such unspoken rules, including Rui. Even the woman who sawed her father's body knew that the police couldn't handle it with only one hand, which shows that this kind of thing happened more than once or twice, and what we saw was only this time in the Rui family!

I can't see hope in this unspoken world.

Winter's Bone quotes

  • Gail: [after asking her husband to let her use his truck] He said no.

Ree: Did you tell him I'd spring for gas?

Gail: I told him. He still won't.

    Ree: Why not?

Gail: He never says why not to me, Ree, he just says no.

Ree: Man, it's so sad to hear you say he won't let you do somethin' and then you *don't* do it.

Gail: It's different once you're married.

Ree: It really must be. 'Cause you ain't never used to eat no shit.

  • Ree: He might be hangin' around with Little Arthur and them. You think?

Teardrop: You don't wanna go around Little Arthur's askin' them people about anything they ain't offered to talk about. That's a real good way to end up et by hogs... or wishin' you was.
