This film has very high demands on the actors' acting skills, with long shots and facial close-ups. Although they put all the freshness and alternative feeling on the two young "stubborn masters", the real powerful actors TIM ROTH and NAOMI WATTS interpret the most normal couple in a law-abiding way - this is even more difficult. The two played abnormal human beings even more easily.
The focus of this film is not on "violence", but really on "games". Different from the peaceful and violent aspect of "The Elephant", it focuses more on a sense of division in which one's self-personality is lost or infinitely expanded in "games". It's even more evident when the theme song is changed from opera to grindcore - you don't really appreciate it, it just makes your "game" more compelling...
