In fact, we can't control anything

I changed my QQ signature to "I'm still a die-hard fan of JOY DIVISION" because I watched "Control". Don't expect it to be a rock history movie, but it's a cliché story about an ordinary man who became famous and then became a concubine and didn't want to lose his wife, but replaced the protagonist with the famous JOY DIVISION's IAN CURTIS.

The funny thing is, I used to like Happy Squad because I had to find a band with a dead lead singer to listen to in my youth, NIRVANA, THE DOORS, JANNIS JOPLIN, etc. 10 years ago, it was hard for me to understand with my simple mind why IAN had to end his damn life at 23, because rock stars should be killed at 27. KURT, JOPLIN, HENDRIX are all that age. I'm also wondering why IGGY POP and DAVID BOWIE didn't die? Because, the younger generation is hurting them, and now they can live a middle-class life leisurely.

We, like IAN, are trying to control our own lives, because in our opinion, life is shit, and you can easily sweep them into the dustpan. And those things that we thought were easy to do, such as settling a good wife, children, and embracing true love outside, but sensitive people know that we will be divided because of LOVE WILL TEAR US APART. We can't be as proud as Eisenhower was to have his mistress write a memoir for him. We can't be like Clinton who molested Lewinsky and got in a relationship with Hillary. Because we are born to worry about our own contradictions. So IAN chose to hang himself. It's like KURT shoots himself, but his paradox is the anxiety that fame gives him because his LOVE is a slut in itself.

I have to admit, I like IAN's little love in "Control" too much, with big eyes, thick lips, and it is so sexy that it will provoke people when walking. Moreover, she never pestered IAN, but would give him an affectionate hug after his epileptic seizure, without crying or pestering, it was only IAN's fault for marrying too early. This also confirms what many experts have said, there will be 6 people in a person's life who are his true love. What can you do if that person appears at a time when he shouldn't? Because, you are an animal, and man is an animal after all.

We want control, and have always wanted to control what we thought was our prey, but his final blow was fatal. IAN was my idol a long time ago, because it was purely for music. When I was transitioning from punk to post-punk, Happy Squad, Bauhaus, and THE CURE gave me the greatest joy and satisfaction in my life. Unforgettable time with them singing long live youth and inexplicable sadness, I gave them to the past, I also left anger and death to my 20 years old, or even a little earlier.

If IAN was still alive, he might be like ROBERT SIMITH, with big arms and round waist, and a world tour. He might also be like Balot, be a young man of literature and art, and go west in an unknown small western-style building.

It's just that damn IGGY POP, PATTI SMITH, DAVID BOWIE who will always take away our innocence in our lost youth and tell us the ugliness of the world, but when we are afraid of death, we find that it is only A dream, a youthful dream that will eventually wake up.

Some music is beautiful, and some music is not born to be beautiful; some people love life, and some people love life so much that they die for it.

The black and white quality photography is great, matched by the director's "control" over the narrative of the entire film. It is restrained and insipid, and goes straight to the end in a natural manner, and only releases the key in a touch of detail. If you don't pay attention or don't understand it, it's easy to be overwhelmed by the straightforward narrative, and the result is a slightly boring love triangle. This is a detailed film about a child who died at the age of 23 and who has lost control of himself after rushing into the adult world. As a special constitution, his epilepsy is not only a symbol of a certain personality discomfort, but also an important factor in his choice of self-determination. PS "Only idiots get epilepsy", see Dostoevsky's novel "Idiot".

Control quotes

  • Annik Honore: Ian...

    Ian Curtis: Hmm?

Annik Honore: I'm a little scared.

    Ian Curtis: Scared of what?

Annik Honore: Scared of falling in love with you.

  • Ian Curtis: I don't want to be in the band anymore. Unknown Pleasures was it. I was happy. I never meant for it to grow like this. When I'm up there, singing they don't understand how much I give and how it affects me. Now they want more. They expect me to give more. And I don't know if I can. It's like it's not happening to me, but... someone pretending to be me, someone dressed in my skin. Now we're going to America. I have no control anymore. I don't know what to do.
