On the Thanksgiving Day, we watched a French comedy film named Qu'est-ce qu'on a fait au Bon Dieu? And when we laughing at some funny scenes in the film, the film also makes me think of something once bothers and confuses me.
This film is talking about a big family with four daughters finally marries four races of man, Chinese, Jew, Arabs and black. The ethnic populations are so intermingled that there's bound to be conflict. The clash of different ethnic cultures finally broke out in this family when the little daughter brought her black boyfriend to visit her parents, and told them they planned to get married. It was a really unacceptable truth to the parents because there had been many conflicts between the intermingled ethnic populations in the family before the black son -in-law came. So whenever there were family gatherings they would be considered as disasters by the parents.
During these conflicts we can not only know some differences about races but also get acquaintance with the distinctive religious culture. Although it is known by us that almost everything about races or religions are too sensitive to be broached, the director still went ahead with the film and even turned it out to be a masterpiece.
And how did the director capture these racial traits and fill them with humor? For instance, there is a scene that the parents said that not all Jews were business-minded because their eldest son-in-law didn't do well in earning money . From this we can know that actually the Jewish ability to make money have been so admired around the world that it has almost become a national virtue. What's more, everyone in the elevator joked about the name Mohammed; and while the parents were preparing dinner , the father said he'd bet $20 that the Chinese would arrive first.
The director gave scenes of almost the same length to every foreign race, and different races kept communicating with each other all the time, and the communication friction generated sparks. However, no one side would always maintain advantages. Therefore, in the face of different customs, we had to get used to them from unaccustomed to them without being looked down upon for lack of voice. That's why we laugh so heartily and not get angry or embarrassed when we saw about Chinese son-in-law doing Kong Fu, being punctual and calling his father-in-law instead of their first name.
This is the pride of the French people: the values of resistance to oppression, the pursuit of freedom and happiness make the French culture accepted by all races, despite the differences of color, race and culture.
The real world is that everyone is equal and everyone's feelings should be cherished and valued. And it's never easy to walk into someone else's life. Even parents and children or partners who spend all their time together have to work hard on their relationships. Different ethnic and cultural characteristics are displayed incisively and vividly. All the toughness on account of these issues had been resolved by love and we have learned how to use inclusion and acceptance to figure out the issues we met in the daily life.
