This is my third time watching this movie. Same as the previous two times, I once again shed tears when little Bruno kept wiping away his tears at the end of the film, so I decided to start with the role of little Bruno, connect with my own life experience, and write my own thoughts.
The role of children often reflects the power and role of society for individuals more than adults - they are in the process of socialization, and everything around them is painted on the white paper of children, leaving the deepest part of their life. imprint. Whether it is the comparison with the behavior of adults in the film, or the comparison with the impression of children in today's era, viewers can feel the subtly conveyed theme of the film: in the society at that time, the poor had to steal in order to survive . This despicable reality was witnessed by little Bruno throughout the whole process, and the film also told the whole process while showing little Bruno's feelings and changes as a child. He was first and foremost a child—he cried aggrievedly to complain to his mother when he was beaten, and that eating in restaurants would make him smile. But he would also clumsily imitate his father to organize his clothes, following in his father's footsteps and worrying about losing the car with the adults. The slightly mature behavior under the cute appearance is even more distressing.
And the cry at the end of the little Bruno contains his biggest change in this film - the collapse and reconstruction of the father's image. He found out that his father had stolen a car, was accused and insulted, and the image of a tall father collapsed for a while. He wiped away his tears, and finally held his father's hand again - this hand-holding gesture actually contained a trace of comfort to his father. It is difficult for us to know whether the image of the father has changed in his heart, or it has just brought great shock and touch. But subtly, little Bruno's understanding of morality has been shaken slightly - why did his father steal?
From the tears of the child's near despair, one of the most basic moral issues is brought out - when a person or a group violates their own moral cognition and commits illegal acts, can we blindly accuse them of moral corruption? ? The power of the social structure behind this and the helplessness of social reality also require deep consideration - such a perspective is extremely valuable. People praised "The Bicycle Stealer" for objectively presenting the truth at the bottom, neither promiscuous nor indifferent, but its narrative itself is a sinking perspective, and the narrative itself is full of reflection on social issues and empathy for the suffering people. .
On the yellowed paper in the library, there is also a record of proletarian scholars’ praise for Italian realistic films, especially the presentation of social problems behind them – in a society with extremely high unemployment, people have exhausted everything to survive Method. They seek the fate of themselves and their families from fortune-tellers, and from religion for a better future and peace of mind. The director uses the film to reveal that these practices are just diverting contradictions and anger, so that the oppressed beings are forced to accept this tragic world. Even if they have the opportunity to seek joy in a short meal, the confused and bleak surroundings after walking out of the restaurant are the norm of life.
I remembered a little girl who used to be in my kindergarten. Her father was disabled and her mother left. They didn't want to take care of her, so I pushed her to my grandma. In order to make a living, my grandmother was unable to take care of her, so she went to several homes, and finally was sent to my kindergarten for boarding. At first, I thought she was a very ordinary child, but after a while, I found out from the surveillance that she often steals things from her classmates and teachers. At first, she thought she just wanted to eat something delicious because she was poor, so her mother gave her more of everything. In the end, it was discovered that she had become a habit of stealing things, and even reached the point of addiction.
I was reminded of the oral records of pneumoconiosis patients I had read. Complicated causes, difficulties in defending their rights, and high medical expenses, a terrifying mountain has fallen on them. I think of the uncle who cleaned the lotus pond in front of Shuimu Tsinghua University. He lived in the steel plate house in the northeast corner of the campus and was asked not to leave the school for nearly two years "due to epidemic prevention and control reasons". I remembered their firm guess when they tried to visit the residence of the sanitation workers on campus: "You are freshmen, right? You come every year as freshmen."
All this flashing in my mind constitutes a group portrait, they are probably the majority in this society; and all the teachers, friends, everything in the ivory tower that I can reach, including myself, are to some extent A vested interest in the film - I hope this is the protagonist of the film and Vittorio Desica. The land is still torn and fractured to some extent, and all the troubles and fears I have had are insignificant in the face of most suffering. We need to try to stitch together the divided worlds, even just a window to see each other. The director seems to have provided a channel, which is the film-through images and stories, trying to express and inspire. Similarly, with words—literary or journalism, in fiction or non-fiction books that present the problems of this age—I believe that revealing the problem, telling the problem itself, is solving the problem.
But these channels have changed. The fleeting posts, the overwhelming 404, and the documentaries that were removed from the film festival "due to technical reasons" were replaced by mainstream discourses that looked different but were actually the same. We always believed that the land was thriving, prosperous, and indulging in a good carnival, but when it fell to us, that confidence completely disappeared. I am often sad, angry and incomprehensible - I can't say how much credit I have to make for thinking about people who are suffering all the time, I just have the heartfelt empathy of being a human being.
Everything seems to have changed and nothing has changed - the little Brunos are still mourning, it's just that it's hard for someone to turn the camera around and record it all.
