There are two ways for a director to make a good-looking film: one is nb's footage and editing, and the other is superb narrative techniques. "Black Book" obviously does not have gorgeous shots and editing, but the director's use of the shots can be said to be consummate and skillful. Director Paul Verhoeven is also a master storyteller. The whole film is slack, with twists and turns in the plot, which are intertwined with each other. From the very beginning, he can firmly grasp the audience, and after more than two hours, it makes people addicted.
I've always thought that only films that resonated with thought or emotion would qualify for 5 stars, but this one is an exception.
ps: the heroine is very beautiful
