If I hadn't attended the viewing party, I don't know how long I would have to wait before I took the initiative to see Tarkovsky .
It's not that I don't like it, it's that I feel that I'm not good enough. The first time I saw the old tower a few years ago, I chose "Nostalgia" . After reading it, I felt that the quality of the candle was very good, and I didn't feel anything else, and I never saw the works of the old tower again.
Fortunately, this "Mirror" gave me a preliminary understanding of Tarkovsky's artistic approach.
I don't like to do a lot of homework in advance when I watch movies, and I don't like to have too much interpretation after watching, which may lead to and can't understand many "private movies" , but I don't think there are "absolutely private movies" . If so, why not hide the film under your own bed. If you give up catering, you might get the director's real bosom friend.
Mirror is a film about Tarkovsky's childhood memories.
How are the memories presented?
In fact, if you think about it carefully, people's memories are not recorded. As we get older, memories can be blurry, jumpy, and divergent. Just like this movie, it does not have a complete narrative structure, different time and space are randomly interlaced, different characters flash back in dislocation, and then it still reads poems in the movie.
I resonated with the way Tarkovsky presented his memories. The entry point is a distant dog bark that recurs in the film. This sound reminds me of my childhood memories. Then suddenly I realized that memories are never a complete video.
For Tarkovsky, memories are the wind blowing through the woods, the mother sitting on the fence smoking a cigarette, the overturned candlestick at the dining table, the dripping milk, the scent of cloves, the Dog barking in the distance.
For me, there are also images of my memories that belong to me. These images may be pictures, sounds, or feelings, and this dreamlike feeling is the best presentation of "memory" .
I think "Mirror" can be called a poetic film. If you use film to benchmark literature, you will find a lot in common. Poetry, as a literary genre, uses the way of creating poetry to create movies, perhaps it is the presentation of "Mirror".
Of course, I'm not talking about reading poetry in movies. In fact, I am very resistant to reading poetry in movies. First of all, I feel that language has barriers, and poetry translation is the most difficult to overcome this barrier. I can also try to appreciate the Chinese and English, and other languages. To be honest, even if it is translated by a famous translator, it may not be able to impress people. It always smells like "hey~ my old buddy" .
I have no blessing to appreciate the poems of Tarkovsky's father.
Speaking of reciting poems in Chinese movies,
First of all, when I think of Bi Gan, it's a bit blunt.
Then I thought of Jia Zhangke,
Just want to gag his mouth.
The poetry I am talking about is the poetic imagery. The story of "Mirror" is not narrated in a straight line, but interspersed with memories, dreams and associations. These things actually have something in common with the creation of "poetry". And Tarkovsky is definitely not a pure stream of consciousness. His long shots, composition, and depth of field are all used to serve the presentation of "memory" or "dream".
In the process of watching the movie, one of the questions I kept thinking about was why it was named "Mirror" . Finally, at the end, both the male and female protagonists stared at the mirror on the wall.
It suddenly occurred to me that looking in the "mirror" is actually looking at "self" . In addition to admiring one's own facial features, the deeper level is to look at oneself . Looking at the mirror, I am fascinated, and what radiates are memories, dreams, and associations. And there is this movie. I have to sigh that Tarkovsky is a real artist.
There are many, many more "interpretations" about this movie, so I will share my feelings here. It's time to watch "Nostalgia" again.
