The French classic black and white film, Jacques Behan's "The Hole", belongs to the most classic of prison break movies. Perhaps, filming such a story is also related to the director's early experience.
Although very famous, its public popularity should be inferior to "The Shawshank Redemption". Because I like both films equally, I have no plans to use the classics to counter the classics. I've seen both, and I think I'll like both.
The narrative method of "The Hole" is not to please the audience at all. For example, it is not a so-called cool film, and there is no male protagonist that can create a victim to win the audience's sympathy or seek the audience's position. The story line of only one of the five inmates in the film is easier to arouse the sympathy of the audience.
After all, this is most of the main characters in a movie, and they are all characters who are devoted to the "cause" of jailbreaking. If this is a "workplace drama", I can say that the people in it are very inspirational.
The big boss and Manu who appeared on the poster are not at all in the popular movie, the configuration of one positive and one harmonious. The film is so good that it can even be described as boring, but once you get into the movie, you can't stop, not because the film is full of fun, or because the film provides enough curious plots.
A clever beginning and a surprising end reversal will make people want to brush it all over again. All the important props and their important roles that have appeared in the film have been shown very thoroughly. It is the kind of amazement that is not too whimsical, but is very feasible. But the film is definitely not providing a guide to escape, but more like the analysis of human nature.
Sometimes, after we have explained the life of a character in a few words, the judgment we make about it may be more comprehensive than we think. This story also reminds me of some social news that I occasionally read. Sometimes, people’s subconscious judgments about a certain type of people may be infinitely close to the truth. Emotions that are thought to be apprehensive or suspicious may be misjudgments.
On the whole, "The Hole" is a very realistic film. It uses natural light throughout the whole process, and the real light source is almost visible in the picture, which also enhances this authenticity. The excavation process of the way of escape for the boss, Manu and others is presented in great detail. Such as making a pullable dummy out of a cardboard box, making a temporary "studio" out of wooden boards, making an hourglass out of two small bottles, and so on. If you don't think about what you learn to do, this movie must be the kind of movie that can make people learn some common sense of life.
