When you don't have time to write a movie, it's good to write a short film. I just wanted to sort out weird short stories, so I lied to myself. Suspense is always a great tool for moving a story forward, and Hitchcock is a master at it. The Hitchcock Theater, which he led, is full of various stories and sets of routines.
The advantage of a short story is that it only needs a suitable idea, even if its logic is not so smooth and the plot is not so rich, but as long as it can attract people to watch it, it is successful.
The story is actually quite simple. A newlywed couple arrives in a seaside town, looking forward to starting a new life. A man is at work one day and his wife is home alone. When the man came back from get off work, he found his wife lying on the ground and was greatly frightened. She said she was hijacked by a salesman dressed in grey and nearly killed. The police couldn't find any evidence, so the man wandered the streets with his wife, looking for a chance to get revenge.
Two details of the story are very important. One is the female protagonist's legs that have been featured several times. She said that she is a ballerina, but her leg muscles are not developed and her feet are in good shape, indicating that she was a little confused. This can also be found through the questioning of the police and the doctor. Although the wife said that she had been kidnapped, there was no other abnormality at home. The music was playing as usual, and the door was closed. These were not in line with the logic of the kidnapping.
The second detail is the carnation in her hand after the heroine fainted. When people see this image, they always think that the female neighbor who was watering the flowers is related to this incident, but it may not have anything to do with it. Therefore, if the female protagonist points out a salesman with a gray title, most people will think that he is a murderer like the male protagonist. But the heroine actually never mentioned the salesman's facial features. When she saw the passerby salesman, she could easily judge it from her back, so these truths and falsehoods led to the tragedy of the story.
In addition to these, the kiss between the two at the beginning is another joke made by Xifa to the Hays Code, everything is to serve the plot, don't you think? This kind of ending, if you watch it once, you may be a little surprised, but after watching it several times, you may still feel a little embarrassed, the ending is not clear enough, or I am not good enough.
