deceased

Parish Staff Harry Josephs

case manager

Morse, Lewis, Forensic Max

Relationship 1 Pastor Lionel Paulin

Relationship 2 Harry's wife Branda

Relationship 3 Ruth Rawlinson Church choir member, cleaner

Relationship 4 Mr Morris Organist

The background explained in the play

Diocese deacon (responsible for church property and finances) Harry Joseph was stabbed to death with a cross near the end of the service as he was depositing the church's donations.

A homeless man named swan or swanny attended the service (probably robbed donations). (Suspect 1 Swanny)

Investigation progress 1

The pastor said: The number of people attending the service was 13. The liturgy is a feast of the religion of St. Augustine.

The priest vaguely heard what was going on, but couldn't see it clearly because it was too dark.

The deceased was carrying hundreds of pounds in cash. There are also bet slips. These things were not robbed (but the deceased was suspected of corruption).

The police began to investigate the homeless and found a friend of swanny's.

Ruth is a member of the church choir and is also responsible for the cleaning of the church. She is a good friend of Joseph's wife Branda. She confirmed that the deceased liked to gamble and said "church and casino are friends". The priest was reluctant to talk about the gambling of the dead. But Moss got to the bottom of it, and Ruth said church donations sometimes didn't work. The other deceased was a retired Navy veteran. And there is the problem of alcoholism.

Friends of the homeless say that the homeless should be called swan pole. But the medical examiner said Joseph may have died before he was stabbed. Joseph had "an elephant-killing" dose of morphine in his belly.

Morphine is ingested in liquid form. Mixed with wine. The drug causes unconsciousness in 40-50 seconds and death in six minutes. Morphine can be obtained by prescription from a doctor.

case analysis

For "Kill Twice" Lewis thinks it might be some kind of black mass (worship of Satan). But Morse thinks it should have been two murders by different people, so it shouldn't be.

Investigation progress 2

Morse took Harry's bet slip and went to the casino to ask. Casino staff recognized Harry's handwriting, but denied he had won a large sum of money the day before.

The tramp said that Swan was actually the priest's younger brother.

Morse attended a service and found that the deacon was the last to drink wine during the service as the blood of Jesus. The priest may have poisoned during the service and wiped the cup clean during the service to remove the evidence. When it was the pastor's turn, all he had to do was pretend to drink. (Suspect 2: Priest)

case analysis

Morse and Lewis saw the priest stroking the head of the little boy (son of the organist). Morse thinks Joseph may have blackmailed the pastor for "loving" the little boy. The priest killed him in order to get rid of the trouble.

Investigation progress 3

Morse goes to Ruth's house to investigate. Her old mother was in a wheelchair, and her hearing was a little weak. The old lady likes to drink. Ruth denied that the pastor had molested children, believing that Morse was overthinking it.

Lewis went to the organist Morris' house to investigate. Met Joseph's widow at his house, and only in pajamas. (The two have an unhealthy relationship)

Morse goes to investigate the priest's file. The pastor seemed to have some gossip in his last term, but the supervisor thought these were all rumors because there was no evidence that the pastor had such a problem.

Lewis found that Joseph had a separate account. The pastor has paid him £500 a month for the past five months. So Lewis thought it was proof that Joseph had indeed blackmailed the pastor.

Moss and Lewis found the pastor and said they would take him to the police station to ask about his brother. The pastor just changed his clothes and committed suicide by jumping off the building. (Suspect 2 leads are broken)

Investigation Progress 4

Moss went to check on his brother. The pastor's teacher told Moss that the pastor had an ineffective younger brother. Although the younger brother is more talented, he is more suitable to be a pastor. But after setbacks, he became alcoholic. After their aunt died the previous year, they didn't leave a penny for their younger brother, so the younger brother kept coming to the door to blackmail him.

Joseph's wife, Branda, left the Morris home. Morse and Lewis went to Morris and told him that there was no one at home. They go to church to investigate (because of the pastor's death). Because there were many keys on the keychain, they opened the door to the clock tower. They climbed to the roof (Moss was afraid of heights) and found the organist Morris dead on the roof below.

The medical examiner denied that Morris died by suicide like the priest because he was strangled and thrown down. Morris' son is missing.

Morse said that swan paul is an anagram, which is Simon oliver paulin, the priest's ineffective younger brother. (so paulin and simon paul are the same alphabetic word, only an m is added)

Investigation Progress 5

The wife of the church commissioner was also missing. Ruth offers clues that she may have gone to the Thames.

Morse asked Ruth to recount the day the deacon was killed. Ruth said several American tourists attended the ceremony that day. But Ruth was actually still dating other men.

Lewis believes that one of the three brothers, the priest and the organist, may have killed Joseph, and then the murderer may have killed the other two witnesses. So he thinks the murderer may be the priest's homeless brother Simon.

Moss and Lewis, inspired by the hotel owner's trip to the cellar for wine, find the body of the missing child in the basement of the church cemetery.

The priest didn't take off his glasses before jumping off the building, so Morse thinks he probably didn't kill himself. Because the wearer of glasses commits suicide, he will take off his glasses as he sleeps at night.

Joseph's wife, Branda, died. She writes a lot of SO in her notebook. (This line has no explanation?)

Of the 13 people who attended the service, five were dead (the priest, the deacon, the deacon's wife, the organist, the organist's son) and six were tourists. Only Ruth and Simon Paulin remain. So Morse thinks they may both be dangerous as well.

The service on which Joseph died, the pastor said was the anniversary of St. Augustine's conversion. Moss found that the so-called anniversaries were non-existent and not part of the church's routine.

Ruth told her boyfriend that last time her mother went to Switzerland to recuperate, the priest helped pay. She wanted to borrow money from her boyfriend, send her mother to Switzerland, and then sell the house to pay off the debt after her mother died. The boyfriend promised to consider it, and let her pay attention to safety.

Lewis told Morse that the priest had withdrawn £30,000 from his account.

Moss remembered that Joseph didn't have a church key in his pocket (as a deacon would certainly have).

He thought it must be the murderer who had the keys. So he ambushed in the church, and the murderer really wanted to kill Ruth (because Ruth still cleans the church regularly). Morse stopped him at the last minute, but he ran to the clock tower.

This man is Harry Joseph. The one who first said he was dead. He killed his wife and the organist's son for cheating on them.

Moss chased to the roof. But because of his fear of heights, he was almost killed by him, thanks to Lewis' timely rescue. Joseph was hit on the head and fell off the roof.

Ruth is in prison for assisting a crime.

final answer

The person who initially died was actually the brother of the extortion minister, Simon Paulin. Everyone participated in the conspiracy (the priest, Ruth, the organist, Joseph's wife), which is why the priest committed suicide when Morse was looking for him. The priest has a lot of money, and the organist wants to run away with Joseph's wife and needs money; Ruth wants to send her mother to recuperate and needs money; Harry wants to pay off the debt and start over;

Revert to normal timing

All conspire to kill the priest's heartbreaker, Simon. Then escalate as Joseph. Everyone got a sum of money, and Joseph hid it in the Ruth's house. The original plan was for the organist to leave with Joseph's wife in a few days. But Joseph chose to take revenge on his wife and organist, as well as the organist's son. The pastor thought the matter was exposed and committed suicide in fear of sin. Joseph is going to kill Ruth again.

final hearing

Ruth explained: The reason for the two kills: Simon was given morphine to stun him to change into Joseph's clothes. Joseph's wife, Branda, has access to morphine because of her work relationship. She promised that the priest would give perjury that the deceased was Joseph. Joseph was unaware that Simon had died of a morphine overdose at the time of the assassination.

Morse said: "When he saw the man who tried to kill Ruth was wearing a navy tie, he realised it was Harry Joseph.

He also concealed Ruth and Harry's relationship in court, lying that Ruth had persuaded the killer to surrender. This greatly reduced her guilt. In the end, she was given a light sentence of 18 months.
