In the first five minutes of the first episode of the first season, the lobby manager sets the tone for the whole show:
People in the whole resort face the wonderful sea view every day. They either look down at books or computers, or they are awkward and unhappy with each other, and no one looks up at the scenery.
The residents are either anxious or depressed, and they all have their own problems, and they can't find a slightly more likable character. This group of people is cringey funny when put together, the Maugham novel and the Woody Allen film appear as a visual cross. Mike WHITE, BLACK comedy.
