cruel and beautiful

"The Elephant" won the Palme d'Or at the French Cannes Film Festival that year. In my impression, this award-winning film is beautiful. The deeper one is "The Son's Room", an Italian film. I watched it a few years ago, and the father in it still has a vague image in my mind.
Sometimes life feels like that, very hard. But it is also full of warmth. Last year's winner was the Romanian film "Two Days in Three Weeks in April", which I thought was very general and quite satisfactory. Maybe it's because of my lack of experience, I haven't been able to appreciate the so-called feelings of Orhan Pamuk. In the past two years, there has been no shortage of beautiful films. I personally like beautiful films very much, because I think love will be more romantic in an aesthetic situation.
Aesthetic films have a good grasp and control of light, atmosphere, music, tone, etc. Even Elephant is such a movie. Everywhere is good, but a little procrastination. It wasn't until the end that the tension of the characters was shown. Maybe this is what the director did on purpose.
The film uses a very smooth narrative form, and uses multiple lines to cross. In the end, several characters are linked together. But these connections are seemingly dispensable, and they do capture the emotional alienation of urbanites well.
And a sense of vigilance arises spontaneously among individuals in this totalitarian society. It is an analysis of potential fascists and militarists.
In Fan's film "The Uninhibited Sky", an emotional issue was completely discussed, while "The Elephant" and last year's "Psychedelic Park" both explored the issue of juvenile delinquency and war. Therefore, it can be seen that the director's change in the theme to be discussed. It also reflects the performance of a man who begins to get involved in politics. I don't think these films have the depth of human emotion he's explored before.
This film is still beautiful, but this kind of beauty is not the same beauty as "The Uninhibited Sky", the latter is pure beauty, and the former is a violent aesthetic refracted by war. In "The Elephant", my understanding of the color change of the cloud is the change of the international situation. But it can also show changes in the character's temperament.
The director shows the true lonely state of a person in the continuous walking of the characters, which also makes this film a more in-depth one in the observation of the youth group. The changes in the philosophical themes discussed by the director in the past two years can also be said to be the fact that he has focused more on the living conditions of social groups, showing an artist's humanistic care and self-growth.
The director took the trouble to display the names of those characters, but in the end they all died, which is a bit unexpected. In modern society, man is too foolish to seek the meaning of his existence. So it's pointless to ask the director why he let these people die. Likewise, their deaths make them meaningless. It doesn't make sense if they survive. So the ending ballad seemed both cruel and beautiful.
For tracking characters, most of them are tracked from the rear, which causes our observation angle to be invisible to them. In this case, it is actually the visual blind spot of the characters in the movie, and it is also easy for them to be attacked. one of the reasons. Because of being followed behind, people in front are less vigilant.
This is especially evident in the hitman playing the piano "For Alice". Amid the smooth piano sound, we were always worried that the gunfight buddy behind him would attack him. But what I didn't expect was that the killer finally attacked his accomplice. Either you ate me, or I ate you, and there is no room for two tigers in one mountain. A killer killing an accomplice is a frontal attack. It can be seen that the factors of war are revealed at this time, and they are unscrupulous.
Later, when it was irreversible, the killer looked to the couple like a hunter looking at a trapped beast in a cage. Sing a song to them, the meaning of the content is to ask whether to kill them?
Results don't matter. The movie is full of blue, and the melancholy singing of the piano boy, as well as his strange expression, will leave a deep impression on people.
