Eight millimeters of humanity

The film "Eight Millimeters" is the most pessimistic and darkest interpretation of human nature I have ever seen. The story begins with a mysterious eight-centimeter film. In the film, a girl was hacked to death after being sexually abused. The detective must find out if the film is real or just an obscene porn. The director deliberately used the technique of backtracking and blurring to put the detective in a very difficult search process. So we knew the girl in the film was a missing girl. She went to Hollywood to fulfill her star dream with her boyfriend. She was dumped by her boyfriend, lived in a halfway house, and ran away in the middle of the night. We met the girl’s mother. After she divorced and remarried, her daughter and stepfather did not get along well. One day she ran away from home and never came back. And the second husband finally abandoned her. We met the girl’s boyfriend, abandoned his girlfriend, and professed that “if you fuck her, you don’t mean to love her.” However, his star dream was not fulfilled. Instead, he went to jail for theft. Except for the mother, and the detective who must solve the case, no one in the world cares whether this girl is dead or alive. After investigating through detectives, we are involved in pornography again. All kinds of obscene pornography, including torture, hacking, cult offering blood... , The director allows us to enter the greatest suspense of human nature: why do people love to watch porn videos where girls are tortured to death? Even detectives began to suspect that there was indeed a pornographic film of "real shooting of violent torture to death." It was hidden and concealed, and it was in a dark corner of society. Why does anyone like to watch it? Why does anyone want to shoot? Why would anyone want to be photographed? The more these doubts are involved with the detective, the more they are exposed. We met the ignorant girl who desperately wanted to make money and did not hesitate to kidnap her to realize her celebrity dream. We have met a perverted director who regards pornographic violence as an aesthetic art. Even he himself is about to die in the process of fighting, and he wonders why the death is not enough art or drama! We learned that the girl was already dead, and no one in the world knew about it except the people at the filming scene. We learned that the eight-centimeter roll of pornographic torture and death film was a real process. Finally, the detective enters the film's most pessimistic and darkest interpretation of human nature. The detective asked: "Why did this man spend so much money to specify real violence and torture and watch the filming scene? Did he orgasm because of this? Did you (the lawyer) help him masturbate? Why did he do it?" The lawyer replied, "No Why, because he has money and power, he can do whatever he wants." The detective finally found the man in the film who wears a black mask, nicknamed "machine," and tortured the girl to death. I want to ask him why he did it. Right here, this film has a very different interpretation of human nature from most films. We thought that we would meet a person with schizophrenia and abnormal personality, but the result was not a scholar with glasses, and his mother was a devout Christian. The scholar said to the detective, "Do you think I have a problem with my family? You think I have mental illness? No! My family is healthy, and I am healthy too. I will do this because I want to. The expression of the knife stabbing the girl's body makes me have Pleasure." Most of the films at the end of the twentieth century dealt with the dark side of society and broke out through schizophrenic personality abnormalities. This abnormality of mental personality has been a major theme of the movies at the end of the twentieth century! But "eight centimeters" subverted this point! The gloom of society is due to the gloom of human nature, and the gloom of human nature is due to the devil's nature of people doing whatever they want. The gloom is in human nature itself, not for other reasons. What a tremor is this. Happy families and highly educated scholars are still unable to exempt this human gloom. No wonder the detective had such a sense of alienation from his gentle wife and his under-year-old daughter in the process of handling the case; after returning home, he cried bitterly with his wife and daughter. If the nature of human nature is to do whatever you want and do what you want, how many dark corners of society and dead ends that cannot be governed by the law will harbor the brightest angels in society; if this is the nature of human nature, what can we expect for the next generation? Is there any power in the world that can save humanity? At the end of the play, the detective received a letter from the girl’s mother: "I once told you I wanted to know the truth, but I was wrong. I shouldn’t know the truth. I hate you for that, and I can’t escape the pain because I know the truth. All the revenge, there is no way to make me safe. What I need is a psychiatrist.” Then, the detective and the gentle wife looked at each other, and the wife showed an understanding and comforting smile. I think in this final scene, the director tried to subvert the theory of human nature he presented through this film. There must be someone who is not under the shadow of the human nature who does what he wants. The warmth, mutual support and understanding of the human world must have its meaning. Otherwise, how can people survive? If you watch this film from the perspective of cultural history and the trend of the times, it will be more thought-provoking. Human nature is always a mystery. Each era has its own angle of interpretation, without any angle, it deserves to be called "unique truth." In the end, what kind of human nature to choose is a question of faith. For me, the mystery of human nature lies in the moment when human beings choose to violate God's prohibition and eat the fruit of the distinction between good and evil. The meaning behind the distinction between good and evil must not be as simple as "having wisdom"; when people did it in the first place, it was nothing more than to want to "be like a god" and be able to do whatever they wanted. Obviously, the result was not as good as expected. Therefore, the salvation of human nature must also be related to the mystery behind the prohibition that "you must not eat the fruit on the tree of distinction between good and evil, and you will die if you eat it." Salvation comes from the mystery God. I still have to say that at the end of the discussion of the theory of human nature, no matter which language you choose, it is actually a question of faith in the end, and you can only reply to your chosen belief in the theory of human nature with your faith! Tom Welles: Some men took her, and they killed her and buried her in the woods.

Janet Mathews: [Starts crying] Oh my God! Oh my God!

Tom Welles: I want to hurt them. I want to punish them for what they did. Please give me your permission to punish them!
