Grim Ritual

The whole plot is relatively dull, and there is no particularly big ups and downs. Even the final shooting and killing seemed so calm and casual, there was no violent mood swings such as resentment, fear, hysteria, etc. Instead, the woman in the post office simply said "It's a big trouble", and then the host and the whole family were brutally murdered. Murder doesn't seem to be a big deal in their eyes, and it's just an understatement. All in all, it's also very perverted.

The heroine is also in a state of numbness from beginning to end: emotionally indifferent and easily instigated. Both women have endured the hardships of life, and there is a lot of rudeness in them that has not been removed.

La Cérémonie quotes

  • Georges Lelievre: [referring, respectively, to Sophie the illiterate maid and Jeanne the nosy postal clerk] What a pair: one can't read at all, and the other reads our mail.

  • Man at Melinda's birthday party: Speaking of quotes, I have one that's less famous, but quite troubling. "There are aspects of good people I find loathsome, least of all the evil within them."

Woman at Melinda's birthday party: My God... Who said that?

    Georges Lelievre: Nietzsche.
