Case piano teacher death case
deceased
Anne, a female friend of the Morse choir, is a piano teacher. She used to work at Richards Corporation (which sold record players). And when she left the company, the company gave her an expensive record player.
principal
Inspector Bell, Lewis, Forensic Max
Relationship 1
Homestay composer Ned
Relationship 2
Neighbors who like to peep, usually do odd jobs.
background
Anne found out that Ned had stolen her money. But she didn't mind, she just told him to ask for money whenever he needed it.
Morse wanted to continue the relationship, but Anne refused, saying that the situation was complicated.
When Moss picked her up to church as promised, she was not at home. So he went to church alone. But when he passed by her house after the service, he found a lot of police officers parked in front of the house. An anonymous phone call was made to the police, who said Anne was dead inside the house.
Investigation progress 1
Moss picked up a key at the door and found that he could open the door.
Morse was at the phone booth in front of Anne's house and found that the phone book had been turned to the page for the police. (Indicate that the informant may be nearby). And the phone booth smelled like fish and chips. And there is no fish and chip shop nearby.
Branch 1
There was a rich lady who couldn't sleep, ran to the garage late at night and put an umbrella in the back seat of the car.
Branch 2
Ned goes to a drug dealer's house and asks to buy something.
Branch 1
The wife eavesdropped on her husband's phone, and her husband seemed to be hiding something from her.
Investigation progress 2
Lewis went to a locksmith's shop and asked him if he had the key. The locksmith not only confirmed that the deceased had been assigned keys, but also said that he had assigned four keys in total. One of them was given the number "10". (How did the locksmith know and didn't explain it)
Branch 1
The Mrs. Richards came to the company to find her "husband" and told him of Anne's death. Richards was shocked.
Investigation progress 3
Lewis came to number 10, the neighbour's residence, to question him. Neighbors said he once took a key for work, but returned it by mail (because the owner was not at home). Neighbors also said there were a lot of people going in and out of Anne's house.
He also said he saw a police officer (that is, Morse) at the scene before the incident.
Morse came to Anne's house at night to investigate (because he wasn't the police officer in charge of the case), only to be caught by Lewis. Lewis told Morse that he was suspect in the incident. Morse took Lewis home, ready to explain. Neighbors followed behind them and heard everything.
Branch 1
Richards received a blackmail letter threatening to tell his wife about Anne. The ransom note has a lot of misspellings. But Richards was ready to pay.
Investigation Progress 4
Inspector Bell suspects Morse and Anne have an inappropriate relationship, but Morse denies it. Bell even suspected that Anne was pregnant with Morse's child.
Anne's mother came to recognize the body. At Anne's death hearing, the medical examiner said she died that morning and was eight to 10 weeks pregnant. The medical examiner said Anne may have died by hanging herself. Inspector Bell applied for an adjournment to determine the cause of death on the grounds that she had just learned that Anne was pregnant to continue the investigation. But the court agreed that Anne could be buried.
Anne's mother told Morse that Anne married when she was 18 and had a son. But the child was adopted by someone else, so Anne's mother didn't know the status of the child.
Branch 1
The neighbors called Richards and agreed on how Richard would pay.
Investigation Progress 5
Morse finds Ned's dormitory (because Anne told him about Ned's major) and asks if Ned killed Anne. But Ned said Anne was like a mother to him, and accused Morse, like any other man, who just wanted to take advantage of her. When Morse asked Ned why he stole Anne's money, Ned wounded Morse and ran out.
Branch 1
Neighbors got Richards money. But Richards' men followed him and found out where he lived.
Branch 2
Ned went to the pharmacy to ask for medicine, but the pharmacy would not sell him without a doctor's guarantee because his prescription involved an addictive drug. He was very angry about it.
Branch 1
Richards misses Anne in public. Because Anne was a company veteran.
The landlord came home to find that a stranger had broken into the house.
Investigation Progress 6
The landlord was killed in his own home. The police received an anonymous call. But Morse confirmed that Anne's caller at the time was a neighbor (because of the fish smell in the phone booth). Morse therefore deduces that the neighbors may have been silenced because they knew the cause of Anne's death. Neighbors died between 9:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Morse's suspect, Richards, has a good alibi because he was with Morse at the time.
Morse's boss, Strange, visits. Tell him he won't be promoted. Inspector Bell was promoted for being more "timely". Strange was upset about his involvement in the murder, but handed it over to him to investigate. Lewis officially became his subordinate.
Morse called Richards to ask what he was doing the day Anne died. Richards provided information on a woman he said was with her at the time. Lewis visited and the woman confirmed Richards' words.
Morse also told Lewis that Richards' car was parked near Anne's home and a ticket was issued. (This proves Richards lied)
Ned was hospitalized. Morse tried to be questioned, but was denied by the doctor.
Two unfamiliar fingerprints were found at the landlord's home.
Morse confronted Richards, who had to admit that he had seen Anne that day. He admitted that he had fallen in love with her and even wanted a divorce for her. But things backfired, and he and Anne broke up. On the day of the incident, Anne asked him to come over, but he left without seeing Anne. But Morse saw that he was lying. At this point, Mrs Richards joined the conversation, saying he was covering up for her. Mrs Richards said she was dead when she went to see Anne.
Lewis discovered that a neighbour had recently withdrawn a large sum of money. So he deduced that this was the money he had extorted from Richards. Lewis suspects that Richards' brother (who founded the company) may have killed the landlord. Morse asked Lewis to investigate and get his fingerprints. But Richard's family has a perfect alibi to rule out the crime.
Morse realized that the whole thing was a lot like the work of Sophocles. But he lied to Lewis that the murderer was Sophocles (Lewis foolishly thought the murderer was really him and wanted to arrest him). Morse asked Lewis to investigate the driver of Anne's ex-husband's car accident. And let him check the adoption of Anne's son.
Morse explains the Oedipus complex to Lewis: Oedipus + Patriarchy. Oedipus' mother committed suicide after discovering the truth, and Oedipus was blinded. Anne and Ned's actions and stories are remarkably similar.
Morse and Lewis raided Richards' office and found a ransom note. But he doubted that the IQ of the neighbors should not be able to write such a logical and reasonable letter, but the people who deliberately used some spelling mistakes to pretend to blackmail the low cultural level.
Morse invited the Richards family to Anne's house. But there is no evidence that they are suspected of committing the crime. At this time, Lewis came in, and Morse suddenly realized that Lewis didn't have the fingerprints of Richards' brother (or brother). Richards' older brother (younger brother) fled in a hurry. Blocked by Lewis taking Morse's car. (In the case, the Richards brothers used outsiders to know who they were. From the end, Morse thought he was seeing Alan. In fact, he was seeing Alan's brother, and Mrs. Richards has been misleading. he).
Lewis found that Ned's father died when the other driver was driving without a license. So it is not the same as the story of Oedipus killing his father.
in conclusion
Morse finds Ned and confirms: 1. Anne died of suicide because Richards hurt her too long. 2. Ned did not have an improper relationship with Anne. 3. The extortion letter was written by Ned to vent his anger.
Lewis's officers found Anne's pen in the landlord's fishing rod, proving that Anne had indeed committed suicide.
Morse's final self-deprecation:
Four people entered Anne's room after her death, and only Morse returned empty-handed. Ned took Anne's money, Mrs. Richards took a letter proving her husband's relationship with Anne, and the landlord took Anne's pen.
